yeah, I agree with his "core principles", and all, but that the $#*&^%$ is he going to prove if he lets this seat slip
away while he proving his silly freaking point?  this is beyond retarded.  if he wanted to make a grandstand play like
this he should have started sooner.

A once-promising House target is looking more and more jeopardized for Republicans thanks to a maverick candidate.

The GOP nominee to challenge first-term Rep. Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) said he has suspended his campaign until half of the counties in the 11th district sign on to his list of “core principles” of the Republican Party.

Asheville City Councilman Carl Mumpower said that while he would not send a letter to the Republican Executive Committee formally suspending his campaign, he would not send out any letters, do any fundraising, advertise or seek any direct involvement of the Republican Party.

“I’m serious,” Mumpower said. “I’ll fight my party first, and then take on my opponent after we’ve accomplished that job.” He added that he intends to remain on the ballot and win the election, and he will resume campaigning if the party signs onto his principles.

Eleventh congressional district Republican Executive Committee Chairman Stephen G. Duncan said the committee would meet Monday night to discuss the matter. That meeting occurred after The Hill’s press time.

This argument needs to be addressed.  If the Republican Party is no longer going to represent the interests of Conservative, Liberal (original meaning, not modern bastardization) Constitutionally-minded Americans - as Juan McCain and his campaign appears to be indicating, then they need to declare, so that we can fond or form the party that WILL.

 . . . that will exist in oblivion for eternity.  but, hey, at least the 30% of us in this country that are genuine conservatives will sleep well at night knowing that our integrity is intact.

A Man of his word willing to stand on principle. Can't have that in our elected officials now can we.

It is rather strange all the folks that proffess conservatism but think the way to get elected is to run away from it. Yes there is give & take in any situation but that give & take has to be based on core principles. If it isn't you are not a leader but a follower,you are not a leader but an appeaser.

A puppet of/for the people is no better/worse than a puppet of/for the Govt.

you must be misreading something.  he isn't professing these wonderful "core principles", he is requiring everyone around him to do so before he will actively campaign to unseat heath shuler, who was actually a much better NFL quarterback than he is a representative.

I took it as getting the Republican party apparatus to sign off on the Declaration of core principles. Like he said he is willing to stand for core principles and if he needs to take on the Republican establishment to do so,oh well.

Schuler is (was ?) pretty popular down there so maybe something a little zany is just the thing to gin up some interest in this guy.

it isn't berkley, CA.  it's asheville, NC.  I don't think the bolsheviks are quite in charge of the GOP in asheville yet.

he will be the MSM's favorite republican crackpot.

Heath is the fair-haired boy in those parts and will win easily.

Asheville is pretty artsy and probably more liberal than other parts of NC.

I met Heath when he first came here to play football, a friend of mine's grandmother was Heath's great-grandmother. Then he owned a real estate company here in Knoxville for years.

He's a nice guy, a good speaker, family man, and unless the GOP candidate is the second-coming...most likely doesn't stand a chance against Heath, no matter what he does.

being a tool of steny hoyer on blocking energy legislation won't go ever well in NC, I don't think.

well, he beat the incumbent in 2006 54-46, so he apparently has something going for him in that district.  and I don't think "junior dr. nutz" looks like he is going to do very much besides draw a bunch of attention to himself, and then self destruct.

Ashville is the Berkley of NC, if you took away the Triangle area..........Heath ran as a Republican with a D behind his name.

HELL................people voted for Junior to stay a Congressman when he has said the President and Vice SHOULD be impeached. Instead of voting in a retired Army man.

Western NC people are fools anyway................they like that nasty Lexington BBQ  :fuelfire:
