I would have to say that David French has missed the bigger story. This political election season is about the establishment Democrats and Republics being exposed. It's certainly not about what rank and file Republicans are doing, except in seeing the results that are happening because the establishment Republicans never held up their end of the bargain.
For years and years and years they said just put us in office, we'll slap the liberals around like the misbehaving children/terrorists that they are (liberals are the modern day Nazis if you ask me). So we do, and what does it get us? We put them in office, give them majorities, and they let these libs run all over them because they're afraid of bad press. Yeah, the press is going to say nasty things about you because they're part of the State controlled media that's just another tentacle of the Democrat party. No kidding they're going to act the way they do. So what? Do the job we sent you there to do and ignore them. We got your back. In fact, we got their back so much that despite the press always trying to destroy them they've held the majority for a while now, and are winning at the State level.
So the story is not about the Republican/conservative base. We've done our part. Any pile on you do to us right now is just rubbing deadly infection into the wound.
The story of Election 2016 is about the party establishment and how they're being exposed. Wikileaks is ripping the Dems to pieces and documenting out-loud what we all knew about liberals; that on the outside they make themselves out to look like whitewashed tombs, but inside they're full of dead man's bones. Is there any doubt that if we could see internal emails from the Republicans establishment we'd see them talking about those crazy Christians who are so backwards they think we should actually listen to God? At least a few of them have come out and said it for all to hear. I'm not fooled, I know that's what they think of conservatives. They don't like us, we get it. The country club, blue-blood, Rockefeller Republicans want the party to go back to the days where they won every so often, and they have just enough representation to get a few things they want, but otherwise they're content to let the USA slip into a liberal wilderness.
I don't know what will happen to Democrats, those people have no backbone. They can be shown how their party leaders spit in their face, but they'll find some excuse to say it's OK and can they get spit on again, please. That isn't going to happen with the Republicans. They don't want conservatives, then they'll get their wish come 2020 and beyond. I wanted Ted Cruz, but he's shown himself to be part of the Republican establishment, and even after the establishment demonstrated they would disapprove of him if he was the nominee. The only one I can think of that was part of the field that wasn't bound by the establishment was Ben Carson, but he'll never be allowed to win. He's got morals.
So David French will be changing his turn in a few years to "Why aren't conservatives rallying around (the Republican, establishment approved nominee)? And it's because of idiots like you, David. It's because of idiots like you.
