Wow!  Have they forgotten who is in charge?  They're losing their minds over this.  First off, how do they know the kids parents are poor?  It's not mentioned.  They may have done like my kids did, they would forget to tell me we owed money.  Then they would come home and tell me they didn't get lunch and I'd ask why and they would tell me we owned money.  I would send a check with them the next day for a month of lunches.

Anyway;

School lunch worker quits after being forced to refuse hot meal to poor student

“As a Christian, I have an issue with this,” said Koltiska, of Canonsburg, Pa. “It’s sinful and shameful is what it is.”

Rather than continue to enforce the policy at Wylandville Elementary School in Eighty Four, Pa., Koltiska tendered her resignation last week. Koltiska said in an interview that she had worked for the school district for two years. She said she was stunned by the new policy, which began this fall.

Students who were refused the hot meal instead got a sandwich made of two slices of wheat bread and a single, cold slice of “government cheese,” Koltiska said. The contents of the hot lunch, such as chicken nuggets or corn dog bites, were thrown away, Koltiska said, even though parents would still be charged the full regular price of $2.05 for the meal. Koltiska said that she resigned out of a moral obligation.

“God is love, and we should love one another and be kind,” Koltiska said. “There’s enough wealth in this world that no child should go hungry, especially in school. To me this is just wrong.”

Sounds like the parents have to pay for the meal the school refuses to feed the child. So the school is showing children the waste of capitalism. When money is all that matters, common sense takes a long walk off a short pier.

Is there no adult in that entire school district who has the means to help families who are poor but do not quite qualify for aid?

Are we better as a society when we refuse a kid lunch because $25? Oh, yeah. I'm sure the district needs all the money they can get to make up for tax breaks they give to corporations, developers and large retailers. I forgot how things work in 'Murrica.

3. I find it easy to imagine, if I were a cafeteria worker,

that I'd pay for lunches rather than see students go hungry or eat such garbage.

It's appalling that people are fired for being compassionate.

Amazing.  Wheat bread and cheese is garbage ...

6. Better yet

Why can the asshole rich pay their fair share of taxes so all kids could get a good nutritious meal at school
The rich not wanting to pay taxes and not being forced too is the problem here

Wow.  I guess he doesn't know how schools get paid.  Unless Texas is just different, it comes from property taxes.  You know, the people in the District.  There are no outs.

8. Because American children have no intrinsic value to Americans unlike the French

Who treat their children with this:

Do you REALLY think that Michelle O, is going to allow kids in school to eat that?!  Really?

10. But Freedom

We can't serve our kids wholesome, nutritious meals because Freedom.

But seriously, the French apparently love their children. We resent ours, by the looks of some US school lunch programs.

Wow, did dumbass just say that??  I guess they haven't seen all the news and all the kids throwing their Michelle mandated lunches away.

There's some more ... hope it grows until someone points out their mistake ...

This is why their demands for a "basic" living provided by the government is a joke, they would never accept anything but the best.

Which would you rather have?  I used to be in the wholesale food business, with schools part of the customer mix.  Those last two items are very very suspect in terms of ingredients and quality.  Inedible garbage, in fact.

There was a poll at the original news site, and the majority said that schools ought to be able to do this.

Does anyone else think that the French plate up there looks sorta gross?  What's the mystery meat, and what's the white stuff?

All school lunches in most of America does is get you used to institutional food.  Training for the Army or prison.

I think I'll call bullshit on that pic.  What school is going to give kids a glass plate?  If it was on a cafeteria tray, I might buy it. It ain't, so I won't.

Back when the Michelle lunch deal went on I saw someone who posted two photos side by side. One showed the Michelle mandated lunches in public schools. The other showed the lunches being served at the private school where her daughters were enrolled. There was a big difference between the two.

  • Make America Great Again. Deport some DUmmies.
Yes, because as we know, The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is a hotbed of conservative rule, just like The Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

How about this morons -- these policies are in place to insure that the NEA gets the money it wants regardless of who ultimately pays the price. If more budget goes into lunch, then teachers get paid less, which means PA.'s NEA chapter(s) get less in return.

bread and cheese is garbage ...

Because my dad wouldn't let us get any sort of welfare of freebies of any kind, a lady down the road from us when I was growing up used to go get that government cheese and give it to mom (when dad wasn't looking of course). That was the best cheese ever!
I didn't realize they still produced that stuff. It's definitely NOT garbage. I'd pay good money for if it's the same as it was then.
He also used to give us peanut butter he got at the same place. I never did know where he got this stuff. I didn't care, we were so dirt ass poor when I was growing up that anything not fried potatoes, corn bread or pinto beans was fancy eating. I swear I don't think these people know what the hell poor really means. 90% of what we ate was raised in our own garden or slaughtered in our barn.
Dad used to dig holes in the garden and bury cabbage and potatoes down near the frost line... I had to go out there and dig that stuff up when we needed it.
And in case you are wondering yup...  my family is 100% hillbilly, West Virginia style.
If you really ARE poor, the last damn thing you want is someone handing you free crap and feeling sorry for you. I know we never went hungry and we didn't have 2 nickels to rub together.

Maybe it's a pic of a lunch served at Sasha's and Malia's school? It also looks too starchy to comply with Moochchelle's program for PS lunches.

Of course not. Moochelle would claim that the meat and pasta would contribute to "Childhood obesity" and prohibit public school kids from eating it, while her spoiled daughters eat meals of the same quality if not better at their elite private school.

Expanding a bit ... that looks like 1 1/2-2 cups each of pasta and quinoa, plus a small loaf of bread. There's no way that would comply with Moochchelle's PS lunch crusade! Not even if divided into 3 lunches!

But, yeah. My memories of PS cafeteria food are largely unpleasant. It's where I learned that institutional canned asparagus and canned spinach are some of the grossest "foods" on Earth! :bouncy: time, I hated asparagus, and my Dad grew the stuff. So guess what we had, fresh from the field, several times a week in March-May. The cafeteria canned spinach was a whole, unique, level of awful: mooshy; stringy; lower stems, never a tip.

I feel for the gal, having to dump the food out in front of the kid and then seeing the emotional reaction had to be kinda heart-rending, but the bread-and-cheese thing makes sense and it isn't the atrocity the first-impression story from the media makes it seem.  My kids would do the same shit with their lunch accounts, and not tell me they were running on empty until the 'hey stupid' letter was already on its way to me.  They would keep feeding them though, and even if they wore out the school's willingness to front them lunch, the school would still give them a PBJ.

“government cheese,” is still around ?

I ate in two French restaurants in my life, both "meals" were more like appetizers than a real meal. I thought that is why most French were "slim".  :-)
