Okay, one of my theories about this explosion.

Location: Chelsea district of NYC.

Is this a coded threat against the Clinton's daughter and her family? A threat of future violence if Hillary doesn't withdraw??

Of course... it has to be right-wing haters trying to threaten Hillary...

... in breaking news, police say no one in the building saw anything...

... because they were all blind.

 :whistling:

Meanwhile: DUmpmonkiez pissed because Trump calls it a bomb.

As police investigate cause of New York explosion, Trump tells crowd a bomb went off

As police investigate cause of New York explosion, Trump tells crowd a bomb went off
Moments after an explosion in Manhattan on Saturday night, Donald Trump told supporters at a Colorado rally that "a bomb went off" and America must get tough on terrorism.

Trump stepped off his private jet, walked on stage and told a couple of thousand people: "I must tell you that just before I got off the plane, a bomb went off in New York and nobody knows exactly what’s going on. But, boy, we are really in a time – we better get very tough, folks."

Police and firefighters swarmed West 23rd Street in the Chelsea section of Manhattan after an explosion that left about 25 people with minor injuries, authorities said. The cause was not immediately known.

"We better get very tough." Trump said. "We’ll find out. It’s a terrible thing that’s going on in our world and in our country, and we are going to get tough and smart and vigilant. We’ll see what it is."

The point is, Trump made a knee-jerk assumption that it was a bomb instead of getting the facts. If an American passenger plane went down in the Middle East due to mechanical malfunction, Trump would be tripping over himself to turn the nearest country with brown people in it into a sheet of glass. We can't give a loose cannon like that access to The Button.

Guess what, DUmpmonkiez, Trump got briefed ont he event and then told the truth. Meanwhile Barry and Hillary haven't said shit and tomorrow the WH will declare it wasn't muslims... but they don't know who did it.

MEANWHILE: DUmpmonkiez declare it's nothing to worry about- move along, move along...

If this NYC explosion was terrorism, it was a weak attempt.

This has the initial appearance of something a crackpot would do. Were it a serious attempt, we would be talking about something very different now.

very good at it.

I have no idea who is behind this or what the motivation is, and I don't know whether it's connected to the incident down on the Jersey Shore earlier in the day, but I don't find the idea of poorly-executed attempts at terrorism to be incongruous or unexpected.

25. This might sound foil hat crazy but....

I can't help but wonder if Trump would not hire someone to set off small bombs around the country to increase the fear and Islamophobia so he can clinch the election. I really can't help but wonder. He sat around for years studying Hitlers speeches and playbook. He has no low he won't go to & I just can't help but wonder. The only reason he has made it this far is off the fear mongering he has inspired. Part of me just wonders could he do that? Did he do that? I know it sounds totally nuts , but after more or less almost asking someone to assassinate Hillary Clinton ( which was an evil thing to do) ...I'm going to say I could not help but wonder. She's doing good in PA..suddenly 2 explosions in and around NYC... he immediately talks up and says " We have to get tough..blah blah" Makes me wonder

stupid mole.

73. That's what's being said by most outlets now.

Second device on West 27th St appears to be pressure cooker

There are several reports that the second device found on West 27th Street has been found to be a pressure cooker.

After the explosion on 23rd Street and Sixth Avenue in Chelsea on 8.30pm Saturday, a “possible secondary device” was found a few blocks away.

J. Peter Donald, the assistant commissioner for communication and public information for NYPD, described the device as a “suspicious package” in an update posted to Twitter at about midnight local time and asked residents of the street to “stay away from windows” as it was cleared.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that a law enforcement official said the second device was a pressure cooker, with wiring and a cellphone attached, inside a plastic bag.

ABC, Fox News, NY1, Associated Press, and CNN have said the same. (Earlier, CNN was among the first outlets to rule out the possibility that the blast on 23rd St was a gas explosion.)

Reports of the apparent pressure-cooker bomb have prompted social media users to make connections to the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013, but authorities have been clear that there is no evidence of any links to terrorism at this stage.

“There is no specific and credible threat against New York City in this point of time from any terror organisation,” said mayor Bill de Blasio earlier.

De Blasio is saying now that they know that it was intentional, but it wasn't terrorism.

Bomb goes off in a dumpster, it's terrorism.  Plain and simple.  Plus the pressure cooker-looking device found four blocks away.

They're here! :o

My guess is that the FBI and the ATF will have it figured out in 36 to 48 hours.

Terrorism, of some sort, yes.  Whether it's got anything to do with Islamic terrorism is a completely open question, due to the timing and lack of fatalities I do tend to think it may trace to some other ideological motive.

Either Trump had private briefing from law enforcement, or a firm grasp on the grossly obvious (i.e. Trump knows, unlike DU member "Rocknrule", that dumpsters don't spontaneously explode).

Looks like we're seeing an intersection of DU TDS and DU fear of what will be learned about the perps of the NJ bombing, the NYC bombing, and the St. Cloud, MN stabbings..

Looks to me like the Islamophobia Narrative is going to take hits, and possibly one or more other Prog narratives.

Thankfully, the only person killed in these 3 attacks was the St. Cloud stabber.

Heretofore, the skill and effectiveness exhibited by most Islamic terrorists has been sadly high. But with their apparent shift from organized cells whose communications can be breached to "lone wolves" that skill/effectiveness could be lessened (e.g. only 1 of 3 or 4 bombs going off in the NJ bombing).

The amusing thing about Rnr condemning Trump for speaking before knowing the facts (which, Rnr can't actually know) is that DU-folk do just that every time some sort of bombing or mass shooting happens, calling out right-wingers or Fundies, or Trump supporters, or etc. as the perpetrator(s). And are ALWAYS wrong. Rnr might have more credibility were (s)he to try to clean up this DU habit before calling out Trump for it. Of course, if (s)he tries that, his/her tenure on DU afterward might be rather brief.

New York bomb was 'act of terrorism', says Governor Cuomo

Source: BBC

A bomb that exploded in New York City was an act of terrorism, Governor Andrew Cuomo says, but no link to international groups has been found.

Mr Cuomo said significant damage had been caused and "we were lucky there were no fatalities". Saturday night's blast in Manhattan injured 29 people.

Some 1,000 extra security personnel are being deployed to NY transport hubs.

Mr Cuomo said: "Whoever placed these bombs - we will find them and they will be brought to justice."

Did they ever catch whoever was behind the Central Park blast?

I ask because that involved the homemade explosive TATP, which is tricky to make, and previously used in the 2016 Brussels, 2015 Paris and 2005 London attacks.

Be interesting to find out what it was in this case.

Explosive identified in Central Park blast

Explosives linked to London bombings identified

Brussels attack: What is TATP, the 'Mother of Satan' explosive used by terrorists?

Acetone peroxide

Police say the bombs in NY and NJ connected.

14. Well, they are connected by time and space

Separated by less than 100 miles and less than 12 hours apart.

Bombings are sufficiently rare, that no connection at all between them strikes me as low probability.

If I was investigating, that alone would be enough for me to invest some resources into seeing if there are any additional connections.

the use of the pressure cooker filled with nails is the exact technique used in the Boston Marathon bombing, and the terrorists (if I may call them that) in that case learned all about how to do it through ISIS' various media outreach and education efforts.

no shit.

CNN - NYC bomb story

Apparently there are videos connecting the two sites with one guy.

They show a guy dropping a duffle bag at the second site. Then two guys take out the
pressure cooker and take off with the bag. They don't think the two guys were involved
They were speculating that the two guys just stole the bag. In doing so, they may have
unknowingly disconnected a wire and that's why it was a dud.

4. The New York and New Jersey bombings are very strange

In the European bombings there was significant number of deaths. But in the NY and NJ bombings there were no THANK GOD deaths. If it was done via cell then the bomber must have been in the area to make sure when bomb off people were not in the area.

Then two guys walk up to duffle bag dump the contents and steal the bag, disarming the second bomb in the process.

This reminds me of the 2012 Benghazi attack which was designed to derail the President's re-election and of course didn't work.

Finally the other interesting thing is that NJ NY and Minnesota are the three places Birther Trump claimed he could win in his deluded madness. Recall Trump said he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and get more votes. Just sayin' this feels homegrown and political

I guess utm doesn't realize that the alarm clock feature of a cell phone can be used to trigger a bomb at a certain time, such as when the mass of the 5K runners would be passing by the selected location (just know the distance, the start time, and the minutes-per-mile of a mid-pack runner - the race start was delayed by numerous race morning registrations). Maybe utm should be called undertheinfluence :thatsright: .

That would be an exceptionally complicated, expensive, and traceable way to make a time bomb versus just using a ten-dollar AA-powered travel clock.  The puzzling thing is how weak the bombs were, as if they were more to cause consternation with some indifference to harming people, rather than to kill and injure the maximum number of people and thereby inflict terror, honestly more like the work of some malcontent jackwad dumbass maladjusted high-school student than anyone seriously trying to further jihad.

It's not impossible for jihadis to also be malcontent jackwad maladjusted incompetents, of course, it's just that they really have to have failed to even read through any of the damn' directions ISIS tries to put out on the net in order to get them to not just FUBAR the jihad when they go for it.

Do you remember a certain Senator Biden's immediate reaction to the Oklahoma City bombing, in those pre-ISIS days of yore?  He immediately blamed Muslim terrorists, but being a Democrat, nobody gave him the merciless mockery he deserved when it became evident that Islam was not a serious factor in the tragedy.  Strangely, all memory of it seemed to have been purged by the time he was Obama's running mate, and now it is as if it had never happened, but I heard it out of his own lips on television at the time, he being a regional big-shot and me living in the mid-Atlantic as I did at the time.  It's fine to call it terrorism, I can agree with that little f@ck-weasel Cuomo on that, but if any Republican says 'Muslim' before the LEOs come out with it as a fact, the press will be unforgiving, unforgetting, and relentless in their scorn.

And additionally (publicly-posted comments); the kooky-theory primitive's a veterinarian:

Quote
Horrible person, horrible vet. Refers to Christians as terrorist.

Quote
If you love your pet, please don't even think about taking your sick or injured animals to Cat's Meow, especially if you feel it is an emergency.  If you have a hurt or sick pet, please don't call and ask them what you should do, take them to a vet you trust or a pet hospital instead.

In my brief experience with them, I found them extremely unprofessional bordering on irresponsible.  Please don't make the same mistake we did.

Our cat had been missing for almost 6 days when she suddenly showed up at our door, obviously dehydrated, and with a nasty looking animal bite that was almost certainly infected.  My wife called me at about 1pm, explained the situation, and we agreed she should try to get to the vet as soon as possible.

Being new to the area, my wife called Cat's Meow at roughly 1:30 pm to make sure they were open and could see our cat.  She explained the cat had been missing for close to 6 days, looked dehydrated, with a large animal bite and asked if she could come in ASAP.  Whoever answered the phone asked if she had eaten or drank since we found her.  Since the cat had eaten a little and drank a little whomever was on the phone at Cat's Meow explained "she's probably fine, since it really doesn't sound like an emergency to me let's book her for tomorrow at 9am".  Never did they recommend visiting a hospital if she was unsure, never asked any further questions about the extent of the cat's injuries.

My wife, being very worried because of the length of time she'd been missing, reiterated there was a bite, that she thought it was an emergency, was there any possible way to get her in as early as possible.  The person on the phone again said "no, it does not sound like an emergency".  My wife called me and explained how the nice people at Cat's meow had reassured her the cat would be fine until morning, that it wasn't an emergency.  I felt relieved.

I arrived home at 6:30pm excited to be reunited with our feline friend.  Less than 10 minutes after I walked in, she began to have difficulty breathing.  I found an open hospital, quickly described what I was seeing and hearing, they told me to come in right away.

I arrived at the hospital 10 minutes later, 5 minutes later she went into cardiac arrest and was gone. Septic shock - infection from an animal bite.  We were shocked, my wife was in tears for days, blaming herself for not ignoring the advice of Cat's Meow to stay home.  The cat had been acting seemingly fine and deteriorated so rapidly, I continued to try and reassure her there was no way anyone could have known.

The next morning, I called Cat's Meow to cancel my appointment, and very politely explained it was because the cat had succumbed to her injuries and passed away.  In no way was I attempting to blame them or anything like that.  I must have been talking to the same person my wife did the day before, because she knew exactly what my wife had said the day before, she immediately became defensive and essentially began blaming us, saying "that's unfortunate, if the bite was bad you should've brought her in sooner, especially if you thought it was an emergency". I politely reminded her that my wife had told the person on the phone she was really worried and thought it was an emergency, essentially exactly she (the person on the phone) had just told me.  I also asked if Cat's Meow considered an infected animal bite an emergency.

I was told "How could we possibly know or diagnose how bad it was over the phone?".

Excuse me ma'am, my wife couldn't accurately describe or assess how bad it was over the phone, because you know, SHE'S NOT A VET, which is why she was BEGGING you to get her in ASAP.

At that point, the lady on the phone began raising her voice and telling me first they "weren't even open at that time, there are plenty of 24 hour hospitals in the valley".  When I asked if they were open at 2pm which was when my wife called, she told me "well thats just unfortunate, we're a one doctor clinic, there are dozens of pet hospitals in this area, you should've taken her to one of them."

You know what, next time, if I have a sick or injured animal I care about, you can bet I will be doing exactly that.  I sure won't be calling Cat's Meow.

It was our fault the cat got out and got lost.  The wounds were also serious enough that it would've almost certainly been too late even if we had gotten her into the clinic when we discovered her.  We accept that.  In no way do I blame the Cat's Meow for what happened to our cat and our loss.

I'm just utterly shocked at the indifference, complete lack of professionalism, compassion and empathy displayed during my interactions with them, especially considering the situation.

I would never, ever even consider taking another pet here again, would not recommend, and most certainly will not be calling to ask for guidance on what to do if my pet were to have a health issue.
