My 45th birthday is Saturday. May I please ask you for help, DU?
As I've been told, and I've told others time and again in their struggles that I've tried to help with, you have to bring yourself to do what is hard and ask for help. I've had this sitting to hit "Post my thread!" for some time...

I have been on DU for over 12 years. I was a mod just about as we came over to the new site. I have posted many threads over the decade plus, and I have appreciated what DU meant to me (and still posting on DU2 for fun). I have been my brother's personal caregiver in very rough times for him, and subsequently myself, since my birthday in 2004. I have been with him on the day he was pronounced dead and brought back, and through many many doc visits and sitting with him as nurses drew blood to check on his readings after another attack that brought us to the hospital, plus all those things we don't even think about that caregivers do such as getting his meds from the pharmacy, going to the store for him at 3am for gas pills, ice cream to make him feel better, cleaning and cooking. It has been a hard long road (over 600 inpatient days and around 100 ER visits I've been with him), but we've gotten through it with care and compassion for each other.

My car's engine broke down badly recently, and just as he has been pushing me to get out my own after taking care of him for over a decade and he's able enough to be on his own, I am stuck and under $10 to my name and do not want to be a burden on him. I have never asked for help here but am asking for your kindness to help me start anew please.

Before he got sick, I was out in Colorado in the early 2000s, and enjoyed myself immensely. I would love to go back out to the mountains, and restart my life.

I cannot thank you enough for any gift whatsoever you are able to give, and for your time in reading this as even hoping for the best for me as I get ready to head to my 45th birthday means much. So, thank you, thank you from my heart...
