It is all great until the market goes down. 
I get asked all the time about this method and that method. They prove their method works!!! Bullshit. I always tell people if their method was so damn great they would make money when the market goes down. Buy gold!!! Buy oil!!! Buy this and buy that!!!! If I was a speculator I would do the exact opposite of what I hear on the radio.
Tried and true... index funds for the long haul. Way I see it, if the index funds go to zero then it is time for the 3 G's: Guns, Gold and Grub. 
Best investment advice I ever got, and still use today:
Never follow the herd.
When the rising market makes the evening news every night, SELL.
