If you think about it, Mateen's action belies the homophobia-only faexplanation. By way of a straight line, Mateen's home was about 80 miles from Orlando, and by highway, it's apparently more like 120 miles. The 1 1/2-2 hour drive time I guessed and posted yesterday were low. Including driving on streets his drive was 2 1/2 hours or a bit more. According to a site called gaybarmaps (I will not post a link, 'K) there is at least one significant gay bar in Port St. Lucie. If simply killing gays was his object, he could have done it much more easily, and had a better chance of escaping (due to knowing the city). Gay-bashers - they do exist, obviously - do their thing and often are not caught. Driving 2 1/2 hours to Orlando points to a larger goal, to create terror, on a national scale. And that points to a larger motive, he had become "radicalized" (basically, a more faithful Muslim!).

That's the dot-connecting Libs & Progs seem bent of avoiding. But I don't think many American people are going to buy it, other than doctrinaire Lib & Prog ideologues.

A former classmate of Omar Mateen’s 2006 police academy class said he believed Mateen was gay, saying Mateen once asked him out.

Officials say Mateen shot and killed 49 people and injured 53 others at an Orlando nightclub early Sunday morning.

The classmate said that he, Mateen and other classmates would hang out, sometimes going to gay nightclubs, after classes at the Indian River Community College police academy. He said Mateen asked him out romantically.

“We went to a few gay bars with him, and I was not out at the time, so I declined his offer,” the former classmate said. He asked that his name not be used.

He believed Mateen was gay, but not open about it. Mateen was awkward, and for a while the classmate and the rest in the group of friends felt sorry for him.

A law enforcement source said that the shooting suspect legally purchased recently the two weapons used in the attack at the shooting center in Port St. Lucie near his Fort Pierce home. He had a Glock 17 handgun purchased on June 5, a Sigsauer MCX assault rifle purchased on June 4 on his person during the shootout, and investigators later found a .38-caliber weapon in his vehicle.

In an interview with NBC's Chuck Todd, Attorney General Loretta Lynch says that on Monday, the FBI will release edited transcripts of the 911 calls made by the Orlando nightclub shooter to the police during his rampage.

"What we're not going to do is further proclaim this man's pledges of allegiance to terrorist groups, and further his propaganda," Lynch said. "We are not going to hear him make his assertions of allegiance [to the Islamic State]."

The Washington Post reported last week that the gunman made multiple phone calls while holding hostages: "The gunman who opened fire inside a nightclub here said he carried out the attack because he wanted 'Americans to stop bombing his country,' according to a witness who survived the rampage."

Donald Trump believes American Muslims are hiding something. “They know what’s going on. They know that [Omar Mateen] was bad,” he said after the Orlando massacre. “They have to cooperate with law enforcement and turn in the people who they know are bad. … But you know what? Omar and I continued to have infrequent conversations over the next few years. I last saw him at a dinner at his father’s house in January. We talked about the presidential election and debated our views of the candidates that were running – he liked Hillary Clinton and I liked Bernie Sanders. This banter continued through texts and phone calls for several months. My last conversation with Omar was by phone in mid-May. He called me while he was at the beach with his son to tell me about a vacation he’d taken with his father to Orlando the previous weekend. He’d been impressed by the local mosque.

Boogey man - Sharia law. Saudi Arabia applies the ancient barbaric custom of cutting off the right hand of a thief (pretty severe since they use their left hand to wipe themselves).
 
But for most Muslim majority countries - e.g. Egypt, Sharia is the rule for marriage, divorce and children for Muslims and doesn't apply to non-Muslims. It is not so different from Catholic rules and could be challenged by a Muslim in the US who claimed to have signed the marriage contract under duress or that it challenged American values.
 
So if you ask Muslims if they favor Sharia, it is like asking a Catholic if they favor Catholic rules on marriage. Most of them will say yes (and break the rules later).
