The father of the Stanford University swimmer convicted of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman is coming under fire on blogs and social media for playing down the attack as “20 minutes of action” during a public statement at the swimmer’s sentencing on Sunday.

Judge Aaron Persky, who sentenced Brock Allen Turner to a six-month prison sentence, is also getting some heat after Persky said “jail would have a severe impact on” Turner.

Turner, 20, was found by two students on top of an unconscious woman by a dumpster in January 2015. Prosecutors said Turner met the woman at a party and sexually assaulted her after she passed out from intoxication. Police officers said the woman was unresponsive and partially clothed.

Brock Turner should be put into the general population. They do not look too kindly to rapists.

The sentence was a travesty.  If they found the SOB guilty, he should have gotten a sentence that matched the charge he was convicted on.

I didn't see him on my ballot, but if he's assigned to the Palo Alto area (= north Santa Clara County) I may not live in his area. Anyway, I've heard from FB friends in Silicon Valley that he was unopposed (on the ballot). OTOH, there may be an effort to recall Persky.

I know what Persky's "reasoning" was - it's mentioned in the article I linked - but the people whose place it was to take into consideration his state of intoxication (one aspect of Persky's "reasoning") was the jury. The jury that heard that Turner was very intoxicated found him guilty of rape, and that should have been the end of considering his intoxicated state to be a mitigating circumstance.

Ex-Stanford swimmer Brock Turner, who was convicted of the sexual assault of an unconscious woman and whose six-month-plus-probation sentence has been the subject of a firestorm of controversy, has been banned for life by USA Swimming, USA Today reports.

The newspaper says, "Swimmers must be USA Swimming members in order to compete in any USA Swimming event, which includes the upcoming U.S. Olympic Trials, the meet that selects the Olympic team every four years."

But USA Today quotes USA Swimming spokesperson Scott Leightman as telling it in an email that, "Brock Turner's membership with USA Swimming expired at the end of the calendar year 2014. He was not a member at the time of his crime or since then. USA Swimming doesn't have any jurisdiction over non-members.

Brock Turner should be banned. He should be banned for life.

(ABC News/WRIC) — Former Stanford University swimmer, Brock Turner, was convicted last week of sexual assault on an unconscious woman on campus.

Turner blames the “party culture” in the school’s college life for his behavior.

The 20-year old was sentenced to six months in county jail and three years of probation.

Really? Blaming others, but yourself. Sounds like a DUmmy to me!
