I haven't written any stories in a while.
I go through periods where I'll write a couple of stories a week, and then nothing for maybe a month. But it's been longer than that this time. I'm one of those people who writes because they have to do it. I mean, it really bugs me when I have a story in my head until I get time to sit down and write it. I can't just let it go. I'm not obligated to do it for anyone but myself.
But no stories have been forthcoming. It's probably been since January at least. Toward the end of January, I submitted a book of my short stories in a contest that a publisher was running. The contest is still ongoing and my book is still in the running as far as I know. I worked really hard to get that manuscript together, but it seems that as soon as I sent it off to them my need to write stopped.
I'm not sure what I'll do if I actually get a deal. I've tried to write before when I didn't feel motivated to do it and it just doesn't turn out well. Then again, maybe a deal will provide that motivation.

1. It is best, for me anyway, to write when I am COMPELLED!
When the words won't leave me alone till I get them onto my computer screen.
So don't worry, my dear Tobin.
Your muse is taking a vacation, perhaps........and it will return when it's good and ready!
And you will know it!
The power of BLINK compels you!

2. Just make sure not to be hard on yourself.
This seems like advice geared more towards stevenumbers than for Tubby Tobin, but whatever.

4. You're gathering new experience right now
That's what writing is all about. So relax and let yourself live the pleasant side of life for now. You need the experience.
A whole new perspective is birthing in you.
That's a mental image I could have lived without.
