FAIRBANKS — A disease that sickens hares, dogs, cats and humans has reached Interior Alaska early this year.An Alaska Department of Fish and Game veterinarian confirmed Thursday the presence of Tularemia in a sick hare that a North Pole resident killed May 11. The disease is also suspected of sickening a dog on Chena Hot Springs Road last week. “Outbreaks of Tularemia in dogs and cats that come in contact with sick hares occur in the Fairbanks North Star Borough every May and June,†said Dr. Kimberlee Beckmen in a news release. “But this year’s cases are about two weeks earlier than usual.â€
