the dodgers won BIGTIME... obviously joe torre has seen enough of manny to realize this ...
Ramirez is one of THE greatest 'CLUTCH' hitters of all time....
his batting average this last week was around 400 & for the season its 319....
Manny Ramirez is also one of THE greatest 2 strike sluggers in the history of baseball...
and whats the key difference between his 319 vs. Arods or many other players comparable ??
Manny Ramirez gets his hits &/or homers that drive in runs when the sox really needed it... unlike Arod that chokes in close/key games, or hits 2 homers in a game that the yankees are already winning by 10 runs....
Boston just threw away their chances at even the post season this year...
they are friggen TOAST....
dodgers gain BIGTIME ...
any dodger was negotiable to get manny....
LA didn't "get" manny, they are "renting" manny for 3 months. in order for him to agree to the trade, the dodgers had to drop the two club option years (for $20 million freaking dollars a year). from that perspective, I think the deal was okay as it went down. but he wasn't worth, say, kemp, ethier, billingsley, kershaw, & etc., etc.
when I first saw that this trade went down, i was SURE that colletti had dealt one of the aforementioned kids that always come up in trade discussions. i was afraid that colletti, in order to make up for boneheaded signings like pierre and jones, not to mention schmidt and tomko, and retarded trades, like mark getting hendrickson, or julio lugo, or losing chuck tiffany, would desperately try to make fix all of those monumental screw ups with one huge deal.
so, my very first reaction as I read "the dodgers trade for manny ramirez" on my blackberry, was abject panic.
