More proof the AP and the mainstream media is slanted to the right..

This story is on the AP wires now....I found it at Yahoo...see for yourself...

Stevens gets chance to clear name before election ...headline...

By MATT APUZZO and LARA JAKES JORDAN, Associated Press Writers

WASHINGTON - Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens pleaded not guilty to corruption charges Thursday and received an unusually speedy trial date, which he hopes will clear his name before voters consider re-electing him in November.

Stevens, a Capitol Hill bulldozer accustomed to winning political battles, wrangled control of the normally sluggish judicial process. The Senate's longest-serving Republican faces a tough re-election fight and made it clear Thursday that he does not want his seven-count indictment getting in the way.

-----

Nice of them telling us that he hopes to..clear his name...
...Yes..He has been wrongfully accused and needs to clear his name..sure..let's see..here is another one..
..There is no snow in Alaska...

I'm confused.  What's the slant here?  Anybody else see if this story is leaning to one side or the other?

2. I gotta say, I see zero slant in that.

The article's just pointing out that Stevens has been given a speedy trial in an effort to put this out of the way before we get too deep into election season. I think it's an important point to make. Yeah, the fact that Stevens wants to clear his name is rather stating the obvious, but that part just serves as a transition to the meat, that this will be a speedy trial.

Man, I keep bumping into the stupidest person on the whole entire internet:

4. "Clearing his name" implies his name is honest and should be cleared.

5. It does not imply that when it's led with "He hopes to ..."because it then is not a statement on his actual guilt or innocence, but a statement on Stevens' intentions. And besides which, despite the preponderance of evidence he is, after all, still innocent at this time. (Hence the use of the term "allegedly" higher up in the piece.)

They had the audacity to report that Stevens pled "not guilty" instead of their normal writing style which is to convict the person before they even make it to arraignment.

It's a classic case of right wing media bias.

Media Bias Is Real, Finds UCLA Political Scientist

By Meg Sullivan

| 12/14/2005 5:36:31 PM

While the editorial page of The Wall Street Journal is conservative, the newspaper's news pages are liberal, even more liberal than The New York Times. The Drudge Report may have a right-wing reputation, but it leans left. Coverage by public television and radio is conservative compared to the rest of the mainstream media. Meanwhile, almost all major media outlets tilt to the left.

These are just a few of the surprising findings from a UCLA-led study, which is believed to be the first successful attempt at objectively quantifying bias in a range of media outlets and ranking them accordingly.

"I suspected that many media outlets would tilt to the left because surveys have shown that reporters tend to vote more Democrat than Republican," said Tim Groseclose, a UCLA political scientist and the study's lead author. "But I was surprised at just how pronounced the distinctions are."

>>>snip

Of the 20 major media outlets studied, 18 scored left of center, with CBS' "Evening News," The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times ranking second, third and fourth most liberal behind the news pages of The Wall Street Journal.

Only Fox News' "Special Report With Brit Hume" and The Washington Times scored right of the average U.S. voter.

I guess you have to be as left as Fred Phelps to believe the MSM is right-biased.

No just a DUmmie.  I've still got the quotes from the first time the DUmmies built a bonfire about me at The Island about AFN and they said that NPR was conservative and that CNN was centrist leaning left.

The impression I'm getting from the stupidest person on the whole entire internet is that over the past four years, she's been steadily increasing her intake of pharmaceuticals, with or without the approval of medical advice.

It seems as if she started off, nearly four years ago, on 25 mg of something.

And then she upped that to 50 mg.

And then to 100 mg.

And right now she's at 250 mg, thinking about doing 500 mg instead.

It's obvious, the sort of deterioration that occurs when one constantly increases intake of a drug.

The fact that the article doesn't state "Stevens guilty as charged, no trial necessary; to receive death penalty" means the AP is slanted to the right.   :whatever:

Quote from:

If anything it's proving a lib bias by using the term "unusually speedy trial date" to indicate that since he's a Republican then he gets special treatment.  I wouldn't even try and agrue that, because for the AP this report is on balance pretty fair.  But you've got to be really off your noodle to believe the article is saying " 'Clearing his name' implies his name is honest and should be cleared."
