Quote
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (KMTV) - It took a small team to get a 2012 Kia Rio out of Lake Manawa Tuesday morning after police say a driver swerved off the road to avoid hitting a rabbit.

Officers were dispatched at 5:28 a.m. to the intersection of Westlake Road and Northshore Drive.

Enrique Iglesias, 38, told police he was the only occupant in the car when he saw an animal in the road and swerved to avoid hitting it, which caused him to drive into the lake, police say.

And if anyone believes that story then they are as stupid as the day is long. If I was that guys insurance agent I'd say no to replacing that car.  There were animal lovers in the Lake Manawa area where this happened that have said they wouldn't have swerved for the bunny.

I'll brake for animals but I'm not making a dangerous swerve unless it's a huge animal. I accidentally helped a squirrel commit suicide two weeks ago. The little bastard ran across from left to right and I slowed to let it cross, then it darted back to the left as I took off. Thump, thump.

You never swerve to keep from hitting animals.

Doing that is the best way to get yourself hurt.

Keep your wheels straight and put on the brakes.

If you hit the animal, you hit it.

But at least your chances of not being hurt are higher.

I have hit a few deer down here in the National Forest, done a lot of car damage, but no injuries to myself.
