The difference between socialism and a fiefdom is that a fiefdom is ruled by a monarchy or a controlling family, whereas a socialist country is ruled by committee. Everything else is pretty much the same.

Actually, every version of Marxian Socialism that has been tried was murderous/genocidal, to the tune of a couple hundred million innocents slaughtered and starved in the 20th Century alone. A medieval fief and a Marxist Socialist country were both governed for the benefit of the governors, but the medieval knight/duke/prince/etc.realized that what benefited his people benefited him. Marxists are too blindly doctrinaire to see that, and their people suffer.
