There's a solution to it; simply a plain ordinary run-of-the-mill primary where one man, one vote is the rule. 

Nothing more than that.

But Democrats, liberals, and primitives don't want a simple system--that is, until they get screwed by it--because it can't be manipulated to bring about a desired result.

Most DUmmies would be butt-hurt by a simple coin flip.  Probably unfair by some bizarre way where it favors the rich.
