19. This is why I get mad..
..when gun nuts try to point out that the majority of our annual gun deaths are suicides instead of homicides.
Oh, don't suicides matter?!
'Well, if someone wants to kill themselves, they'll find a way.'
No, actually, if you swallow a bottle of sleeping pills, ingest poison, cut your wrists, or even hang yourself, there's always a small chance someone finds you in time and you'll survive the suicide attempt. Then maybe you can get the help you need to stop feeling suicidal.
Meanwhile, a suicide attempt with a gun is almost always successful. There are no second chances.
First of all, when trying to overdose you might not be successful if someone finds you and your rushed to the emergency room and survive but have enough brain damage (I know I know) or other physical damage that your life is much worse than before.
Second point, I have a friend who went on an EMS call that was a suicide attempt, shotgun to the head. Notice I said attempt, not successful. Imagine how happy the patient is now that he doesn't have: 1) a face, 2) hearing, 3) sight
and 4) half of his brain
I sent out a bunch of healing
vibes when I heard about that one.
