The pastor of a prominent Idaho church was shot and critically wounded in the church's parking lot Sunday, a day after he delivered the invocation at a campaign rally for Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz, authorities told NBC News.

Tim Remington, 55, senior pastor of the nondenominational Altar Church in Coeur d'Alene, was in critical condition at Kootenai Health and Medical Center late Sunday afternoon, the hospital told NBC News.

The gunman fled and remains at large. An associate pastor at the church told KHQ that the gunman was described as a little more than 6 feet tall, with short curly blond hair, a slim build and glasses.

A friend in CdA posted this from some one who works with Pastor Tim Remington:

I just left the hospital where Pastor Tim Remington is recovering from surgery. Here is what we know. Tim was shot six times outside his church, The Altar, around 2pm. He came through the surgery in fine form! He could make a full recovery! We'll know in a couple of weeks. Praise God!!

He was shot in the side of the head but the bullet hit his skull. It did not penetrate his brain! He was shot in the arm and broke a bone. He took three rounds to the body and is suffering from a deflated lung. He took one round to the hip. It will be a few weeks before he will be walking.

My friends, God is good! Remember what the scripture says, "What Satan meant for evil, God means for good!"

As tempting as Fw's idea is (and it is very plausible/possible), Pastor Remington runs a drug recovery program in CdA. That means he is around a lot of people of dubious sanity, and also POs drug dealers. The fact that the suspect was spotted on multiple security cameras inside and outside the church suggests to me that the guy wasn't aware or didn't care, and seems to me more consistent with a mentally disturbed druggie.

I will say this, sort of in reference to Fw's idea. Pastor Remington is exactly the kind of Christian leader Christian-haters, theologically liberal CINOs, and "Progressive Evangelicals" would fear most: theologically conservative (his church is Evangelical, possibly charismatic, based on its "What We Believe" webpage); he puts his faith where his hands and feet are. Besides the recovery ministry he leads, his church also operates a soup kitchen and a food bank.

Pastor Remington's condition has been upgraded to "fair".

Local authorities have said that the shooter had a history of mental problems, but were not specific. I wonder if they're going by family members' statements and have not been able to access actual medical records (if there are any).

Kyle Odom, 30, was arrested in Washington, D.C., two days after the attack on Tim Remington outside Altar Church in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, after Sunday services.

CNN, citing the Secret Service, reported that Mr. Odom was arrested

at the White House. Mr. Odom was arrested after he threw two suspicious objects over the south fence of the White House around 8:30 p.m. EST, CNN’s source said.

Kyle Andrew Odom, the ex-Marine accused of shooting Idaho pastor Tim Remington, was charged Wednesday in Washington, D.C., with being a fugitive after he was arrested while throwing documents over the White House fence.

Odom, 30, was arrested without incident at 8:27 p.m. ET Tuesday at the South Fence of the White House, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Police Chief Lee White said. D.C. Superior Court Magistrate Judge Renee Raymond found Odom to be a flight risk and ordered him held without bond pending a hearing April 6 on whether to extradite him back to Idaho.

Odom's documents include a long, unfocused essay, described by police as a "manifesto," that suggest the shooting was instead the work of a deranged man.

In the documents — which were also sent to news organizations in the Northwest, including NBC station KHQ of Spokane, Washington — Odom writes that "hypersexual" beings from Mars who live underground and inside the moon have been controlling human civilization for millions of years.

Remington is one of those "martians," he writes — along with dozens of other public figures, including several U.S. politicians and "every single Prime Minister" of Israel since 1948.

Among the "martians" Odom names are Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky; Sens. Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts, Patty Murray, D-Washington, Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, and Roger Wicker, R-Mississippi; and Reps Nancy Pelosi, D-California, and John Lewis, D-Georgia, the civil rights leader and associate of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.

I was anticipating that the shooter would have some beef against Pastor Remington for his addiction recovery ministry. While there may be a slight connection - I've read that the shooter's brother went to the ministry for treatment - the shooter's just a nutjob who somehow became fixated on Pastor Remington.
