Nothing Less Than Fate of Planet Hinges on Next Supreme Court Nominee

Given the high environmental stakes, its not surprising that green groups are applying heavy scrutiny to potential replacements for Justice Antonin Scalia

by Deirdre Fulton, staff writer
CommonDreams, Feb. 17, 2016

As Washington, D.C. gears up for a Supreme Court showdown, experts this week are predicting that the person chosen to fill Justice Antonin Scalia's seat on the high court bench will have a huge impact on the fate of the planet.

Common Dreams previously reported that several high-profile cases hang in the balance in the wake of Scalia's death. But perhaps none will be as closely watched as the case that pits fossil fuel giants and Republicans against environmentalists and the Obama administration.

"In dying," science journalist John Upton wrote on Sunday, "Scalia may have done more to support global climate action than most people will do in their lifetimes."

That's because, as Upton explained in a separate piece, Scalia's death "means it is now more likely that key EPA rules that aim to curb climate pollution from the power industry will be upheld."

SNIP...

One of Scalia's final acts as a Supreme Court justice was to vote in favor of an unprecedented stay on the Clean Power Plan (CPP) until it has been reviewed by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, with arguments set for June 2.

Let me be sure I understand this. They are now saying that the fate of the WORLD lies in the balance of the next SCOTUS nominee. The FUTURE OF THE WORLD. Yet 0bama, who is proud of his track record of going outside of the law to achieve his goals, wouldn't for a moment consider putting one of his kill squads to work when he sees the election going sideways. 0bama, known to be obsessed with his legacy and fresh from the latest 5-4 vote against a portion of it would never, ever consider taking matters into his own hands.

Imagine - A Liberal Court

The secret to a liberal Supreme Court:
Why progressives need to start thinking seriously about Scalia’s replacement
The right spent decades remaking the judiciary.
For the first time in a generation, the left could do the same

Every single post they make about what could or should be done with the SCOTUS, they create more suspicion.

They'll fold soon enough, in exchange for some bag of magic beans that you or I will never know about. That was part of 0monkey's calculation, the pussificiation of the Republicans. Similar to Putin's calculation of the pussification of 0monkey.

When I think of the adults who used to be in power, I get depressed.

     No kidding. Seriously, like NOW.

You guys know me - I don't go in for CTs at all. But I think the liberals are a little too excited by Scalia's death, which makes me believe he was offed.

Which is a couple of orders of magnitude less silly than thinking Bush imploded the towers.

FIFY: "Any judge that sides with any other idea, premise, entity or document, over the U.S. constitution, has no place on our Supreme Court."

Idiot. Pretty brazen, suggesting the USSC should be an activist court.
