A great Democrat has left us.

He was awarded the Bronze Star during his service in Vietnam on a mission that saved scores of civilian lives. He dedicated the rest of his life to government service in both DC and the State of Alabama, worked with Don Siegleman and defended him at trial, served for several years as Chairman of the Alabama Democratic Party, and served as Vice Chairman before he passed. He was a US Attorney under Clinton for almost eight years. In one form or another, he was involved in every Democratic presidential campaign since Bobby Kennedy's. His favorite politician was FDR, but he worshiped the ground upon which Jack and Bobby Kennedy walked. His knowledge of politics and history was encyclopedic, and he imparted as much of that to me as my feeble mental RAM could encompass.

His name was Charles Redding Pitt. He would have been 72 next month, and he was my father. He died on Monday from a sudden illness. I loved him very much.

Ooops.
One small problem.
There are only two persons recorded as winning the Bronze Star in Vietnam named Pitt.

0001-John M Pitt, 07/04/1971, U S Army Bronze Star Medal, IV Corps

0002- Lloyd S Pitt, 01/28/1972, U S Army, Bronze Star Medal, III Corps

hmmm... http://www.vietnamwarhonors.com/index.php?q=Pitt

There was a Charles R Pitts awarded a Bronze Star for service in 1969 from the Army Chief of Staff for Logistics, I Corps...

Name
Charles R Pitts
Identifier

Service
U S Army

Award Date

A service Bronze star is still a high award, but if Charlie was a staff puke for I Corps pretty typical "I've been there" award for a ranking officer.

Oh dear... there is another problem...

CHARLES R PITTS

is honored on Panel 30E, Row 93 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Wait- Wee Willy's father was alive the whole time?

I thought his father had died some time in the past, and that was the source of his trust fund.

Charles Redding Pitt (March 29, 1944 - February 7, 2016), known as Redding Pitt, was an American attorney and former chairman of the Alabama Democratic Party.[1]

Pitt was born in Decatur, Alabama. He attended the University of Alabama and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1967. He was active in campaign for Robert F. Kennedy in the 1968 presidential election.

After graduating from college Pitt entered the officer corps of the United States Army, serving from 1969 to 1972 in Vietnam, where he attained the rank of captain and earned a Bronze Star. Later he served in the Office of the Chief of Staff for Intelligence in Washington, D.C.

Following his Army service, Pitt attended Boston College Law School and received his Juris Doctor in 1977, after which he returned to his home state and began his public career. Pitt served as Alabama's Assistant Attorney General from 1981 to 1991, and Chief Deputy Attorney General from 1991 to 1994. He also served as a legal advisor to several Alabama state government officials. From 1994 to 1998 he served as United States Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama.[2]

Later in his life, Pitt practiced law in Birmingham, Alabama. He was one of the attorneys of record for former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman during Siegelman's federal trial in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama on charges of bribery, mail fraud, and obstruction of justice. He also continued to serve campaigns for Democratic candidates, including his Boston College classmate John Kerry in 2004. He served on the Democratic National Committee and was elected in 2003 to chair the Alabama Democratic Party.

Pitt was married to Jane LeCroy Brannan of Montgomery, Alabama. He had one son, William Rivers Pitt, by his previous wife, Jane H. Pitt. He was related to the 18th-century British Prime Minister William Pitt. He died on February 7, 2016 at the age of 71

Wait- Wee Willy's father was alive the whole time?

I thought his father had died some time in the past, and that was the source of his trust fund.

No.

The source of the Bostonian Drunkard's affluence is his mother, the first Jane Pitt, the daughter of a big-time attorney in Boston during the middle part of the last century.

The Bostonian Drunkard's maternal grandfather.

But by either foresight or sheer good luck, the old man had been bothered by the retarded social and intellectual development of his grandson, and so his daughter's in charge of the trust fund until she dies; it's "his" money, but the Bostonian Drunkard's linked to his mother for her whole life.

That's what happens when one refuses to grow up; adults are left in charge.

Anyway, the sources for all this are buried way back in the archives of conservativecave; it was in fact one of the first in-depth research reports to appear on this site, shortly after conservativecave came into being in late December 2007.  One can look for it if one wants--I believe it's in the DUmping Ground--but I'm too lazy, unmotivated, today, and have it memorized anyway.

I'm not completely sure how the process at Wiki works, but I do know there's a way to request documentation for a claim because I've seen things on various pages that said "citation needed" or other such phrases. If someone here knows how to do that, I recommend you do.

New story out of Alabama doesn't mention Willy or Mom. Also doesn't mention being related to ancient William Pitt...

Quote
A one-time chairman of Alabama's Democratic Party who also served as the chief federal prosecutor in Montgomery has died.

Law partner Ken Riley says Redding Pitt died Sunday. He was 71.

The cause of death wasn't immediately released Monday.

Pitt was a Decatur native who served as chairman of the state Democratic Party from 2001 to 2005 after working as U.S. attorney in Montgomery for seven years beginning in 1994. President Bill Clinton appointed him to the federal position.

A former Army captain in Vietnam, Pitt received a Bronze Star for service in the infantry and intelligence divisions.

Party chairwoman Nancy Worley says Pitt was currently serving as a vice chairman of the state organization.

Pitt has been with the Birmingham-based law firm of Farris, Riley and Pitt since 2001.

Besides the fact that there is no listing of a bronze star awarded to any Charles Redding Pitt there is the whole 'He served in Vietnam from 1969 to 1972. Now- a four year commitment after doing ROTC at the U of Alabama would be normal, Pitt wouldn't have served four years in Vietnam.

The only 'Charles R Pitts' with a bronze star was in the logistics field- completely in line with Willy's dad's 'career' in the Army. Getting a Bronze Star for Service is also withing the realm of believable. Now- would a democrat inflate his military service in order to score political points?

[cough cough] johnfkerry [cough cough]

I still find it funny all the changes to on-line bios to Willy's dad popping up in the last few days. Willy has been busy.

http://www.frplegal.com/attorneys/redding-pitt/

Redding Pitt is a native of the Tennessee Valley region of Alabama, with family roots in Lawrence County, who was raised and completed his education through high school in Decatur, Alabama.  During the course of his higher education and subsequent career, Mr. Pitt has lived and worked professionally for extended periods over many years in Birmingham, Montgomery and Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  The focus of his practice in Alabama consequently extends to many and varied regions of our state, and his deep commitment to clients in need of solid legal representation in all walks of life, in both civil and criminal matters, in court, in dealing with government agencies, and in private legal counseling, is his lifework.

Mr. Pitt received his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama College of Arts & Sciences, with majors in American Studies and Political Science, a minor in English, and an equivalent major in History, while participating in service activities both at the University and in communities around the state.  At the University he held membership in several scholastic and leadership honor societies.  Mr. Pitt received his law degree from Boston College Law School, and was admitted under the student practice rule to appear in the courts of Massachusetts while working in the Office of the Attorney General of Massachusetts.

Prior to attending law school Mr. Pitt was employed as a staff assistant to Congressman John Young of Texas, as well as by the Democratic National Committee, and worked in numerous local, state and national campaigns both in Alabama and in select locations across the United States.  Mr. Pitt entered military service prior to entering law school.  Following graduation from law school, he worked as a staff Assistant to the Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance corporation, and to the Comptroller of the Currency, United States Treasury Department, in Washington D.C.

Mr. Pitt returned home and began a 31 year law practice in Alabama in 1981.  He served as an Assistant Attorney General in Montgomery from 1981 to 1987, and from 1991-1992, specializing in both civil and criminal matters.  He served as Chief Deputy Attorney of Alabama from 1987 – 1991, and from 1992-1994.  In 1994 Redding Pitt was nominated by President Bill Clinton and unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate to serve as United States Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama, based in Montgomery, and served as United States Attorney from 1994-2001.  In 2001, Mr. Pitt entered the private practice of law with Farris, Riley & Pitt, where he continues to  dedicate himself to the vital needs of clients.

In addition to the listed practice areas which are the firm’s special areas of expertise, Mr. Pitt, drawing on his extensive experience as a prosecutor and lawyer in public service, represents clients in need of representation in criminal matters, in state and federal courts.  Importantly, Mr. Pitt brings from his experience strong expertise in representing persons who face investigative challenges, particularly during the grand jury phase of cases, and has achieved substantial positive results for many clients in this area.  Mr. Pitt’s practice also includes representing aggrieved clients as plaintiffs in civil fraud cases, and he has served as special master in complex litigation.  In all these practice areas Redding Pitt has consistently maintained a central commitment, putting the client and his or her life’s interest, and that of their families first, always.

Mr. Pitt served as Chairman of the State Democratic Executive Committee of Alabama, and as a member of the Democratic National Committee from 2001-2005, and was elected Chairman of the Alabama delegation to the Democratic National Convention in 2004.

Redding Pitt served as a United States Army officer on active duty from 1969 to 1972, which service included a year’s duty in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. [Although I cannot find any official reference to the award of the Bronze Star Medal anywhere. Pitt had to have been in ROTC which is also not mentioned.]

Isn't that the Democrat that the DUmmies claim was railroaded and lacked quality representation?  Should Pitt have a lot to contribute when Siegelman's name comes up?   :-)

Threw himself on a syphilitic hooker in Saigon; and saved scores of Dept of the Army civilians from being killed by their wives when they rotated back to the Land of the Big PX. Unfortunately, he passed the syph on to his loinfruit, resulting in the Charles Bukowski wannabe we know today.

It occurs to me that Pitt the Younger spent his whole life trying to win the love and approval of his father- and failing spectacularly. It explains so much.

It occurs to me that Pitt the Younger spent his whole life trying to win the love and approval of his father- and failing spectacularly. It explains so much.

I think that's the gist of it. And the best he can do is fabricate a lie about a medal and gain entry of his story on a online encyclopedia that's known as a place where the things written can't be trusted.

Because third world peasant labor is a good thing.

When daddy pitt told his son that in years prior he had "passed the Bar," li'l willy took it to mean something completely different, and his career began.

.

And the wee one went on to become a member of the bar too (sort of kinda)
