Get ready for higher gas prices

U.S. President Barack Obama will launch a long-shot bid next week to impose a $10-a-barrel tax on crude oil that would fund the overhaul of the nation's aging transportation infrastructure, the White House said on Thursday.

The proposed fee, which would be paid by oil companies really?  You don't suppose that tax won't be passed onto the consumers? and phased in over five years, was quickly met with scorn by lawmakers in the Republican-controlled Congress.

In the last year of his presidency, Obama has said the country must stop subsidizing the "dirty" fossil fuels of the past and focus on clean, renewable fuels that do not exacerbate climate change. It's not about rebuilding the transportation infrastructure, it's about obama's cult like following of the climate change doomsayers and his personal war against oil.  Funny how his dislike of oil hasn't ever stopped him or his family from jumping on a taxpayer funded jet and flying off to wherever the hell he feels like going at no charge and no regard for the pollution his jet makes.

Since mitch mconnell has already telegraphed that he didn't want to fight obama this year to avoid a backlash at the polls in November, you can consider this tax a done deal.

I do my very best to avoid listening to anything that comes out of Barry's mouth for the simple reason that he's a liar.

However, how many times have I heard him rail on about "infrastructure?" And demand a new tax to pay for "crumbling, aging bridges, culverts, and dams"?

Barry's incessant whining about not having enough to someone else's money to spend is becoming tiresome.

Here's an idea, Barry! Instead of tossing a political football that isn't going anywhere, you know, with you being the lame duck asshole and all, how about doing some constructive, creative thinking for a change?

If the truth be known, the 18.4 cent federal excise tax on gasoline hasn't been raised since 1993. It's not keeping up with inflation.

At least I know that when I fill my tank at the pump, I can see right on the pump that the feds are ****ing me -- not the oil companies, who are simply going to pass on that $10 per bbl bullshit "tax" that crawled out of your limp-dick lame-duck ass to me -- without insertion.

P.S. I do NOT, under any circumstances, advocate creating more tolls. Tolls are designed to do one thing only -- justify creation and maintenance of more bored people sitting on their butts freezing their asses off in the winter and roasting in the summer, as they rake in the millions that the rest of us poor bastards have to pay for the privilege of driving in their orange-barrel-lined traffic jam.

Everyone is wanting to tax oil or gas now that prices are down.

DECATUR – The Decatur City council voted to table a proposed 5-cent gas tax and a large increase in video gaming machine fees for business owners.

A packed council chambers saw numerous business owners speak out against a proposed increase in liquor license fees from $2,000 per year to $5,000. The council voted down the proposal.

A new licensing fee for video gaming machines was tabled until a later date for further discussion. The proposal would have a fee of $750 dollars per terminal.

City leaders are looking at options for more revenue for road repair and neighborhood improvements.

One small business owner says he is barely keeping his head above water with expenses... and added fees could put him out of business.

Things have gotten worse since the below article was posted. Hundreds of jobs have been lost since then. Firestone closed their plant. Caterpillar has cut way back. The city has the highest unemployment in Illinois.

In 2001, about 30 percent of the city's property tax levy went into paying down the pensions of its retired police and firefighters. In 2011, 70 percent of it will go toward pensions, even as recent years have seen cuts to other services that draw their funds from the same source, including the Decatur Public Library.

This year the library eliminated the Bookmobiles in the face of cuts exacted upon it by the city council.
