Will the 2016 Primaries Be Electronically Rigged?

Will the 2016 Primaries Be Electronically Rigged?

Thursday, 28 January 2016 12:18
By Victoria Collier and Ben Ptashnik, Truthout | News Analysis

"You've heard the old adage 'follow the money.' I follow the vote, and wherever the vote becomes an electron and touches a computer, that's an opportunity for a malicious actor potentially to ... make bad things happen." — Steve Stigall, CIA cyber-security expert, in remarks to the US Election Assistance Commission

Primary election rigging in the coming weeks and months is all but assured if American voters and candidates don't take steps to prevent it now. Evidence that US voting systems are wide open to fraud and manipulation should be taken seriously in light of the unprecedented high-stakes elections we're facing.

Not in recent history have American voters been presented with such radically polarized candidates, forcing a crucial choice for the direction of our future, and possibly upending long-established centers of power.

It's no secret that US primaries have been tightly controlled by the two ruling parties, usually to the benefit of their favored candidates. If this internal manipulation (some might call it rigging) is not publicly condoned, neither is it loudly condemned.

This year, however, the primary season is shaping up to be a battle royal between the political establishment and outsider insurgencies who are challenging the party elites and defying their usual filters, money and manipulations. And it seems all bets are off.

As a brazen Donald Trump kicks down the door of the GOP, tens of millions in super PAC dark cash has (so far) failed to buy the candidacy for a lackluster Jeb Bush. Accusations abound that Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz has stacked the deck for Hillary Clinton. Yet nothing - not even corporate media's censorship or outright hostility toward Bernie Sanders - has blunted his skyrocketing grassroots campaign. ...................(more)

I'm hoping the bern wins Iowa and NH. That'll put the bern-outs on a high-high, which will make the crash even more spectacular.

There isn't really a lot of differences between their political views. Hillary is more of a criminal and lies about being a socialist.

Rick Unger (a lib) was on Hannity a couple weeks ago and was saying that crazy uncle Bernie will likely win Iowa and NH but then he hits a wall in South Carolina and on forward.

That wall is being built by the Hillary campaign pushing the meme that Bernie and his supporters are racists. Hillary will break out the southern drawl after New Hampshire.

Votes are counted differently in Iowa, since it is a caucus, not a primary.

Before everyone "votes", each caucus site will have someone supporting each candidate to speak.  And they will enumerate the reasons to choose their candidate.

Then you either raise your hand or gather in a group for a headcount for each candidate to tabulate the totals.  The results are phoned into state Headquarters.  The results make it into the DM paper the next day, by location.

What appeared in the paper in 2012 was exactly the count from my caucus site.

After that takes place, the people running it ask you to stay & discuss the state party platform.  That's when at least half the attendees leave, including myself.

Have heard that Democrats will argue for hours over minutiae, Republicans might last a while too.  But have never stuck around for that.

Which is why the results pile up in random order.

Hopefully that explains a little bit how it transpires here.

I heard something recently that the caucuses were going to be using some app to report the votes in real time and they would be posted online shortly afterwards.

The February 1 Iowa caucuses will still involve voting on scraps of paper on the Republican side and, for Democrats, something resembling a game of musical chairs. But now both parties will use a Microsoft smartphone or tablet app to report the results from each precinct caucus back to the state party on election night.

Does each caucus site have to register with the county?  What's to prevent someone from simply calling and giving false information?

It sounds about as much fun as going to the DMV.

Especially since the Santorum/Romney tight vote count in 2012.  Think they can use an app to forward onto each county headquarters.

And yes, some locations will have you write your choice on paper & tabulate results that way.  Think it varies from site to site.  Just relating my experiences.  Have attended in 1996 (voted for Steve Forbes), 2008 (Fred Thompson), and 2012 (Newt Gingrich).

Maybe I'll finally be choosing the actual winner on my 4th try.  But I always attend when I've lived in Iowa.  Covered it for high school paper in 1988 in person with my press pass so didn't attend one, although I was eligible to go despite being 17. Would have been 18 by general election. Still in college in 1992 out of state, and lived in Chicago in 2000 & 2004.

They just need to do the unnatural thing (for them) and face the truth. It was always Hillary, it was never going to be Bernie no matter what. To any lurkers, think about it. Why didn't Hillary put much effort into campaigning? Sure she did that pretentious "van across America"  thing and had a burrito. Who cares? She did damned little else. Why? Because she knew perfectly well she ha's the backing of YOUR PARTY. They only keep Bernie's dusty old ass around to make it not look like the coronation which it practically is.

So with that in mind, just sit back and pull that lever for Hillary like we know you will. When it comes time for us to pull the lever for either Cruz or Trump, bear in mind that no matter what you DU drones are screwed either way.

That's unpossible. Everyone knows democRATS hold honest elections. It's those evil Republicans that cheat.

Right?
Liberals disgust me. (Now I don't have to remember to put it on each post).

Because only the left goes searching for that which is not there in a desperate attempt to be offended about something.

This touches on a topic that I rather enjoy: What is best in life? Opinions very, of course.

For example:

"Conan! What is best in life?"

Conan: "To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women".

Its hard to argue with Conan, but...

Watching the DUmmies tear each apart other without having to lift a finger has to be just as good.

"Be not intimidated... nor suffer yourselves to be wheedled out of your liberties by any pretense of politeness, delicacy, or decency. These, as they are often used, are but three different names for hypocrisy, chicanery and cowardice." - John Adams
