San Diego: How to Pay for Infrastructure Repairs

Jan 25, 2015 (San Diego) It is no secret to San Diegans. Our streets are a real mess. We are having issues finding money to build fire stations, and fixing libraries is a challenge. The city has a 2 billion plus infrastructure deficit, and that is a fact well known to city leaders.

City Council is supposed to vote tomorrow on a ballot proposal, for the June Ballot, titled “Rebuild San Diego.”

This proposal promises anywhere from $4 to $5 Billion over the next 30 years without raising taxes. This is to be put on the June ballot, if the Council approves. It relies on three sources of theoretical income.

Pension Savings. The plan will:

Pension Savings

http://reportingsandiego.com/2016/01/25/san-diego-how-to-pay-for-infrastructure-repairs/

For all of you going but Sanders does not provide numbers, or any other variation on Democratic fiscal plans... well yesterday (not that the local MSM would cover this in detail, there is a... robbery to cover) we had a Republican magical unicorn fart plan on how to solve the infrastructure problems in this city.

I linked to both the Dem and Republican plans. And the republican plan has no numbers except aspirational. After 30 years we will have 4-5 billion, which sounds like a lot, but after 30 years and inflation it will not be. Worst, it relies on pension savings that might go poof if the city takes it higher in the courts and the courts continue to tell them that Prop B was not quite kosher. If they do not, well they have to pay a lot of money to new hires already...

By the way, the cynic in me says, this is a plan to transfer wealth to their friends... me cynical, nah... but has the potential of once again robbing Peter to pay Paul and bankrupting the city.

The democratic plan has specific numbers, I had to print the damn 5 pages since it was a tad dense, but it includes the dreaded T word and in this case, Prop 13 comes to play. Yup much easier to raise sales taxes than property taxes... so I would say both are likely DOA... and if the magic unicorn passes, well we will deserve the bankruptcy.

Who is at fault for san Diego going broke or girl reporter?

Raise $4/$5 billion without raising taxes.  Hmmm...

Sounds like Ronald Reagan.

But since this is California, and one can assume that San Diego is full of Democrat City Council members.  My guess is they attempt to raise $$ via bonds that China will buy out.  Or bundle into property tax increases.  Especially since I know San Diego is an amazingly expensive real estate market.

As nads said, Prop 13 limits property tax rates and rates of increase. Were it not for that, few people in CA could afford to own a home. And even though Prop 13 was passed and came into law well over 30 years ago, governments and schools still try end-arounding the law rather than living within their means!

Ds have gotten to the point that they cannot imagine "solving" a problem without forcibly sucking more money out of earners' pockets and throwing it at some bureaucratized agency with a massive unproductive overhead. Not that the problem would ever be solved by this process.

Oh, joy! Yet another opportunity for DU-folk and other gun-haters to make fools of themselves by blaming right-wing Christian gun-nuts and once again have their wet-dream shattered by reality.

Tax the movie industry and actors to pay for your road and bridge repairs Nads.

Very few actors claim California as their primary residence. Most movies are made where they are offered tax incentives.  That is one reason why Hollywood supports higher taxes, they will find ways to avoid them.

I'll bet the cousin's going apeshit with her police scanner, which she shouldn't have.

Well it is California and sometimes despite the best efforts  of the people they will find a way to tax the minions.

Hopefully Nads didn't break out the good rig because it turns out there was no shooting.  Someone just heard three loud bangs and called the police.
