OCALA, Fla. - Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey sparked a firestorm of debate when he urged more people to arm themselves to help fight terror, and now another local sheriff is asking people to do the same.
"Those who carry firearms responsibly and are confident in their ability, can and should be our first line of defense in an active shooter situation," Marion County Sheriff Chris Blair said Tuesday in a video posted to Facebook.
Blair said mass shootings are becoming a seemingly everyday occurrence and that sometimes fighting back could help save lives.
"A lot can happen in the minutes it may take for us to respond to those in need, and to have someone there to bring the fight to the attacker may save lives," Blair said.
Blair is following the lead of Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey, who over the weekend released a video on Facebook and said, "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun."
