I Want A Poll!
« on: December 19, 2015, 06:47:20 PM »
Why isn't there a poll on this forum?

I'll start:

Are Paul Ryan, Rubio Pieces of S#!t?

Hey, mrclose, good post to help us unwind from liberalism.
My answer:  Yes!
Ditto for McConnell, McCain, Flake, Graham, Ayotte, & every single R in the House & Senate that voted for the Omnibus Pork bill.

Hate it all you want to, but Ryan's move was sound strategy.  Shutting down the government on principle may be red meat to 30% of the electorate, tops, but it truly and deeply pisses off 70% of them and hands the Dems a huge propaganda victory in an election year.  I have my own problems with him, but snatching this talking point out of the Dems' 2016 media blitz isn't one of them.

This is why I don't trust Rubio and will not vote for him.

Sorry.

Quote

Appearing as a guest before MSNBC's live coverage of President Barack Obama's Friday press conference, during a discussion of Donald Trump's history of promoting birtherism against the President, MSNBC Hardball host Chris Matthews recalled his accusation that Trump is "playing to racists" and playing to a view that President Obama is "not one of us, he's black."

Shortly before 2:00 p.m., MSNBC anchor Brian Williams brought up Matthews's contention that birtherism was Trump's "original sin," although it has since "been washed away" by other statements during the presidential campaign.
Matthews began by alluding to "people out there who don't want to accept the first black President."

Matthews:
Yes, but it does track because if you say the first African-American President is not legitimate, whatever your personal feelings about ethnicity are saying to you or you're acting on, you're talking to people out there who don't want to accept the first black President.

He referred to views of President Obama being "illegitimate" as Matthews added:
You're saying to them, "Okay, you can put your list of presidents together, pictures in their copy books, your textbooks, but you don't have to put his picture in there because he's not really legitimate.

He deserves at least an asterisk next to his name, an asterisk.
Because he's not really one of the presidents since going back to Washington, through the great presidents, Lincoln and FDR.

No, he's not one of them because he's illegitimate."

The race-obsessed MSNBC host then bluntly proclaimed:
You're playing to racists.

And I raised that with him the other night.
This is about ethnicity and it's about race and you're talking to those people.

And it's not just a dog whistle.
You're saying to them, "You're right, we never elected him President, he's not one of us, he's black."

Matthews asserted that his views are "fact" as he concluded:
And that game is serious business on the hard right.

If you look at the people who still believe the President is not legitimate, who think he's a Muslim, who think he's not from this country, put all of it together, he's a foreigner, he's playing to them still.
And that's why he said we're not going to let Muslims in the country anymore.

It's all playing to that same crowd of people.
Fact.

I truly hate to be the waffler thus far in the poll.  However, the poll makes it a both or neither proposition and while I think Rubio is as slick as shit and a liar to boot (promising the people of Florida he'd be THEIR Senator for 8 years and now not even bothering to show up for a very crucial vote on the omnibus bill, the one Rand Paul and Ted Cruz showed up for.

I like Paul on a personal level, just as I kinda even like that old bastard coot Sanders, because as misguided, okay insane, as their ideas come across at least I get the feeling they are authentic and not a bundle of contrived political shtick, poll tested talking points like the professional political pimps up there, aka Clintoon, Bush, O'Malley, Graham Cracked, KAY YOU MAKE ME SICK and the rest.  We actually, imo at least, have quite a few rather genuine candidates although since Burn is a kook let's vote for one of the Republicans.  For those I perceive as (MORE OR LESS) honest besides my boy Donald, there's Ted, Ben, Carly, Chris, Rick, Huck and yes, Rand.

I think Rand watches, or rather listens to, too much Alex Jones, but I believe He believes what he says.  So, I wouldn't classify him as a piece of shit, just someone who really ought to go do the job his constituents elected him to do, same as Christie should go govern New Jersey.  Too bad these governors and senators weren't required to relinquish their sinecures for their presidential aspirations or we'd witness a precipitous drop in these vanity candidacies.  What else can it be called when someone polls under 10% after half a year and persists in clogging up the selection process?

That all said, and while I would definitely prefer to smell a dead skunk for a week than do it, I will hold my nose and vote for whoever the presidential nominee is UNLESS it's obvious the Replublictocracy "Elite" tries to ditch the common voters' wishes and anoint one of their "approved" selectees.

Sound strategy my ass DAT.

It pisses off people because the GOP leadership refuses to explain to the people this whole shut down mess.

It's not the end of the world if it happens. It's been done 25 times since IIRC 1976 and we're still here.

Only in DC would a shutdown cause wide spread panic when only 17% of the Government actually shut down and the only ones who truly suffered were a bunch of vets who were denied access to open air sites.

It's sound strategy if you're Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi.

It's a death sentence for the rest of us.

Oh, I wish I could do that this time around, but alas, I cannot.
National review also says it right (no pun intended).

So insular and cynical are Washington Republicans that they believe they can yet again dupe conservative voters with conservative rhetoric in House and Senate races across the nation. Perhaps they can. After all, they did so in the past three elections. They’ve suffered no consequences for broken promises. From the establishment’s standpoint, why should 2016 be any different?

At a deeper level the budget deal was a startling declaration: establishment Republicans are going their own way. Conservatives can follow if they like -- or not.

The only one that would truly make a great conservative president and end some of the lunacy in Washington is Ted Cruz!
I believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed, a democracy in a republic, a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes. I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.

That does include you...but it doesn't include Paul Ryan.

He has a lot of ideas I think are absolutely terrible and are in the vein of "Why decisions based solely on financial accounting often become horrifying disasters," don't misunderstand me.  You can't break faith with vested earned benefits like SS, Civil Service, and Armed Forces retired pay and benefits because it's 'Easier' or 'More palatable' than fully funding them.

I'm just saying that in this particular case, while F-ing up a bunch of other things, the budget bill will benefit the GOP in the general election because it will remove a favorite pro-Dem press (Is there any other kind?) football from play, and they won't be able to beat relentlessly on 'GOP Congress's ineptitude and failure to meet basic obligations' for months on end before the election.

Ah, Tanker, good post.

But the flip side, as many of us know, is that the rinos had, what, a year to plan for this Omnibus?  On the other hand, they didn't need to plan.  I think all along they chose their golden idols & rolled the dice for corporate welfare, & said, the little people?  PP,  funding Obamacare...we'll spin it so it looks like delaying the Cadillac tax will help them & they'll forget about Reid's union buddies who will be the anointed ones;  stalling on Syrian refugees?...not on your life, & so on.

Lastly, are there any gains made that passage of the Omnibus will help the GOP in the general election?  Yes, it takes away that they didn't freeze government spending.  & Ryan, et al., have spun this bill to look like its a great win for the R's, or the best they could do.  But if one needed any further clarity that the R & D's are the same, want the same progressive policies, & are all puppets of their donor classes, well, look no further than the Omnibus that was recently passed.

And yet the only one that ever comes under the knife is the Military retirement pay and benefits.  Civil Service is the only job sector in the country that's growing and SS is about to bankrupt the country.  Something needs to be done to rein in the unfunded liabilities. And the answer isn't shuffling around IOU's form one trust fund to another...or screwing the military.

No...what the Dems will end up doing is  blame the Republicans for the financial mess since we were "in charge" when the budget was passed and totally get a pass from the media on the fact they all happily voted for it.  And then say the only way this spending can be paid for is by raising taxes and/or cutting defense spending.

What really chaps my ass about this where Speaker Ryan is concerned...is that he goes out and claims we had to "play the hand we were dealt"..."there wasn't enough time to fix anything"...and yet he's the chairman of the freaking budget committee.

He KNEW what was in this budget MONTHS before it came up for a vote.

I'll just leave it at saying I like you and respect your opinion, but you are 'way overreactive and overdramatic on political issues, and I think you're dead wrong on both the effect of this and the 'Blame' the GOP will get; the only blame the press will plaster them with is keeping taxes too low (Under the Lib paradigm of the effects of taxation) to support the level of public welfare spending they want.

An amazing number of Conservative commentators who talk about CS retirement (Virtually all of the ones Fox uses, really) don't actually understand how it works or how it's structured, and are stuck in the version that closed in the 80s and has an ever-shrinking number of surviving people in it.  If military retirement is a deferred benefit, so is the defined-benefit portion of FERS retirement, the difference being that the FERS retirement defined-benefit is much less than the military equivalent, and there aren't actually any collateral benefits that go with the CS retirement, just a pension that is vastly over-estimated by people who bother to check their facts.  As far as SS being unfunded, that's horseshit, you and most everyone else (Outside a few particular systems who therefore aren't eligible to take it) has paid more into SS than they paid in income taxes during their lives.  The misuse of that money by Congresses and Presidents of BOTH parties, and the unfunded disability portion (SSDI) explosion since 2008, not the funding mechanism of the old age retirement.

Begs the question -- why don't the establishment GOP actually make an attempt to push back and otherwise defend their BS rhetoric and chest thumping like small government, less spending?

Why is it that the GOP caves to spending each time?

I can give Ryan a pass on this one -- he was handed a pile of shit when Boner left fled and he (Ryan) hadn't assembled sufficient political capital to make a case before caving in to the RINOs and their Dem brothers. He could have at least put up some kind of a freakin' argument.

Instead, Ryan just capitulates.

As a result, he looks like the RINO he apparently is.

Most rational people understand that you just can't stop spending money at the drop of a hat. It took decades to create this mess and it'll take at least that long to un**** it. I've not seen any kind of indication that any sort of spending discipline went into that Omnibus pile of shit.

Except to spend more, of course.
