Atman (28,956 posts) I think some will label this as a "Bouncy." Thanksgiving in Florida.Heads are spinning in my circle of friends. We drove to Cocoa Beach for the annual art show, 51 years of history. My home town, we saw lots of friends. I posted a golf challenge on FB and wound up playing eighteen holes with the mayor and two locals. These are some smart people. While I'm not currently a local in Cocoa Beach, I travel home several times a year. They were actually interested in the opinion of an non-local, they wanted to know what "tourists" think. They wanted to hear other viewpoints. It's rare. I am as crazy liberal as they come. But I played golf and got to to talk politics with some Southern republicans. It was fun. It was constructive. I urge all to step outside your comfort zone. You gain nothing by preaching to the choir, they already agree with you. I think I taught a few people that us crazy liberals aren't that crazy. In fact, I KNOW that is the case. It was stated outright as we gathered at cocktail parties...the crazy liberal isn't that bad of a guy! Just sayin'. DU is a closed community, so you won't change any minds. Play golf with a Republican...that will open your eyes, and theirs.

Well, that was a disappointment.I was hoping to hear about his "fundie" in-laws.However, question. How does he know that for sure, that he "taught" a few people that?
He thinks that the reactions of the people he talked to constitute 'agreement' and 'conversion.'What they actually are are attempts to get Bob to shut his mouth for more than four seconds.
Having played golf since I was a wee child, been around courses & country clubs quite often. Rarely do I ever meet a golfer that is a liberal. And when I do, it doesn't bother me in the least. So Atman, you probably tossed in a bouncy.
