Fundamentalists Believe They Will Take Over Government And Rule By The Bible.
In 2008 when my mother-in-law passed we took her to Kentucky to be buried. We had the service at her Baptist Church there. Went to Sunday services to meet the pastor. It was amazing that his sermon included taking out a dollar bill and him going on a 40 minute angry rant on this country must embrace Jesus and will become a religious state. That was because "In God We Trust" is on our money.
ZERO BONGS. Never happened. There is a religion that is also a system of government and that is islam.
While almost anything's possible if one looks long enough in sufficiently tiny and obscure corners, I find this
dubious. Among Fundamentalists in the US there are, painting with a somewhat broad brush, two major sources/branches, Presbyterian and Baptist. The kind of theocracy thinking TMN describes has some currency among the Presbyterian branch, as part of a Post Millennial eschatology. The problem I have with TMN's
is that he places it in a Baptist church, and the Baptist branch of Fundamentalism has largely (if not all but entirely) embraced Pre-Millennial eschatology, in which the only theocracy will be when Jesus has returned and personally and directly reigns on Earth.
So, the possibilities I see are: TMN's mother attended one of the very few Fundamentalist Baptist churches in the US that embraces Post-Millennialism; TMN doesn't know the difference between Baptists and Presbyterians; TMN read his own ideas about what "Fundamentalists" believe into what the preacher said; TMN made up almost the entire
; TMN is no longer entirely in the real world.
From what I've seen of TMN's hatred-filled ravings, the latter three possibilities seem the most likely - delusion, dishonesty, or dementia. Have any DU-folk called him on this bit of raving? Does DU have anyone knowledgeable and honest enough for that to happen?
