Smoking high-strength cannabis may damage nerve fibres in brain

Quote
High-strength cannabis may damage nerve fibres that handle the flow of messages across the two halves of the brain, scientists claim. Brain scans of people who regularly smoked strong skunk-like cannabis revealed subtle differences in the white matter that connects the left and right hemispheres and carries signals from one side of the brain to the other.

The changes were not seen in those who never used cannabis or smoked only the less potent forms of the drug, the researchers found.

Really no surprise to anyone who's ever had to deal with a wake-n-bake stoner.

I for one take some of these so-called scientific studies on cannabis with a grain of salt.  I am very much pro-medical marijuana. It is a shame that someone who is in an extreme amount of pain is kept "doped up" with nasty prescription drugs with terrible side affects when marijuana has proven time and time again to be of equal or greater relief with less harm to the body and enables a person to function much better. I have personally seen or read medical documentation of the dramatic positive affects of medical marijuana vs. prescribed drugs; including chemotherapy vs. marijuana...doctors were amazed that cancer cells were eradicated and prevented from metastasizing...a person in a wheelchair unable to walk because of debilitating pain walk...reduction or elimination of seizures of people with epilepsy...reduction or elimination of tremors in someone with Multiple Sclerosis, etc.

I personally feel that big government and big pharmaceutical companies have censored the huge benefits of medical marijuana; they stand to lose too much money.

I believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed, a democracy in a republic, a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes. I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.

You can say exactly the same thing about those awful horrible big pharma drugs vs. witch doctors, booga-booga herbal BS, homeopathic medicine, and faith healing.  Or about any one of them versus any of the others.

Marijuana may well have positive health effects, even if the real quantitative proof of it is about as sound as that for anthropogenic global climate change.  But, 98% of 'Medical' marijuana is just waste-oids getting high and giggling about it.  Of course there's no reason it necessarily has to be smoked to achieve any such supposed benefits, the active ingredients providing the benefit could just as easily be in capsule or liquid form.

Many of the people who support marijuana hate tobacco and want to ban it.
But I have always reasoned that at least with filter cigarettes, tobacco would put less toxins into your body than unfiltered pot.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

Any substance, be it cigarettes, alcohol, prescription drugs, marijuana all have room for abuse, that I don't dispute. You are of course entitled to your opinion about the affects/outcome of marijuana vs. prescription drugs. To see someone in obvious irretractable pain find relief with marijuana when prescription drugs don't work or to know of someone who was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus and told there was no hope be cured with marijuana you might have a slightly different perspective. You can't deny the positive health effects vs. the harmful effect of prescription drugs. As for herbals -- due to health issues that I have, I have found that herbals work much better without the side affects.  To each his own I suppose, but when prescription drugs fail or leave an individual with more side affects than the original ailment I vote for herbals and marijuana.  That is not to say that herbals and marijuana are not without risk; I just think the results are much better and the side affects less traumatic to the body.
