Terrorism a real problem right? It must be. Republicans make a big deal of it. The press makes a big deal of it. Politicians want to pass laws to stop terrorist attacks. There is a constant drumbeat about how terrorist attacks are imminent and how we "have to do something".

According to CNN, the number terrorist attack deaths were 18 in 2012 and 21 in 2013. So how does the number of people killed in terrorist attacks stack up to other ways people die?

Let's compare approximate number deaths in the U.S. and their causes:

    389 mass shooting
    355 falls from ladders
    100 bee stings
    100 being scalded by hot tap water
    717 all-terrain or other off-road motor vehicle
    450 falling out of beds in the United States each year
    341 drowning and submersion while in or falling into bath-tub
    567 drowning and submersion while in or falling into swimming-pool
    1,135 drowning and submersion while in or falling into natural water
    742 exposure to excessive natural cold
    744 Inhalation and ingestion of food causing obstruction of respiratory tract
    98,000 people a year die because of mistakes in hospitals
    27,483 unintentional “fall” deaths
    36,280 unintentional poisoning deaths
    1,153 Distracted driving (using a cell phone, texting, and eating)
    2000 Stoplight Intersections accidents
    6000 tripping and falling at home
    5000 eating raw meat


It is good to know that our betters in Washington and the media are focusing on really really important stuff, and are not just pushing fear as an agenda. They really c-a-r-e about us. I'm touched. Truly touched by their concern. They just care more.

I wish it wasn't true, but the "own it" campaign isn't being effective against the libs.
They are expert at separating  consequences from action.
They are also expert at not taking responsibility for any negative outcomes.
They are also great at not ever being held accountable.
I don't know how they do it, but they set policy but shirk any responsibility especially if the policy doesn't perform as advertised or propagandized.

Most of those killed by terrorists outside of the US are "brown" and "black" people, so of course many/most DU-folk don't give a @#$%.

As poorly done as security measures have been in the US, there have been few terror-killings in the US since 9/12/2001 (I wonder ... did the source of CNN's stats class the Fort Hood shooting as "terrorism" or a "mass shooting"? That I asked indicates my guess as to the answer!), while terror killings have been horrific in the rest of the world.  How is effectiveness an argument that terrorism is not a threat? Or that already porous security can be relaxed?

Possibly but as I keep saying the motive is money.
They think what is spent on the military needs to be diverted to them in the way of freebies or outright cash payments.
They have to minimize the need for defense.
