Gee, I wonder why this article from PoliticsUSA omits the fact that,
as Wikipedia points out multiple times, the "Religious Right" organization with which Bryan Fischer was associated, the American Family Association, has repudiated Fischer's views, specifically and in detail? Maybe that complicates their smear? For my part, my first thought on seeing Fischer's name was, "Who is that?"
While I am aware of Walid Shoebat, Theodore Shoebat's father, I've not heard of Theodore. Theodore Shoebat is an adult, something the article fails to mention, leaving the reader to
assume Walid approves of Theodore's views. Maybe he does, but the lack of evidence has the odor of smear.
I've been among mainstream Evangelicals of various flavors for over 6 decades (i.e. my entire life). Theodore Shoebat's views - which seem to be real - are not shared by Evangelical Christians. In fact, they would be flatly rejected. If Theodore Shoebat is, like his father, a Catholic, his views would likewise be rejected by Catholic leaders and observant/believing Catholics generally.
It's tempting to liken smearing theologically conservative Christians with Theodore Shoebat to tarring DU with the loony-toony hate-filled and -driven views and ravings of TMN, but it's a very poor analogy. From what I've seen, TMN actually has some on DU who share and echo his hatefulness. Plus, I'm too honest to smear
all of DU with TMN and his fellow-travelers.
