2011, Kunduz Province, Afghanistan. Sergeant Charles Martland, along with Captain Dan Quinn, intervened on behalf of a 12- year-old boy. They shoved Abdul Rahman, an Afghan police commander, to the ground, bruising him, after learning that he had raped the boy.
Their punishment for these actions was involuntary discharge. Martland, a decorated army green beret who served for 11 years, repealed his decision. Quinn quit the army & went to Wall Street. But Martland, who was awarded a Bronze Star with Valor for his heroic actions during a Taliban ambush, wants to continue his military career.
His initial appeal was rejected last month. However, there is a glimmer of hope, after pressure from several Congressman.
Army Secretary John McHugh:
The Army has agreed to postpone Sgt. 1st Class Charles Martland’s discharge from the Army for 60 days to allow him to file an appeal with the Army Board for the Correction of Military Records.
Clearly he is a victim of the bizarre PC rules...who in the world makes this up?
...the reported policy on Army bases overseas is to ignore child sex abuse at the hands of Afghan officers.
