This has never happened to me in 30 years in the workforce, but for a couple of dollars over minimum wage, I am not going to cry if there are repercussions.

Isn't saying one has a job close to bragging in the DU context? Or is it a confession?

Some realities of retail and other direct customer service jobs:

* Most customers do not know whether a store is over- or under-staffed while they (the customers) are there; they just know what their experience is;

* Some customers are unsatisfiable, jerks, or assaholics; handling such idiots is part of working in customer service;

* Profit margins are usually quite tight, inclining managers to staff shifts tightly;

* Part of supervisors and managers' jobs is handing the dedicated obnoxoids and assaholics; knowing when to hand off such idiots to one's supervisor/manager is part of a server's or clerk's or ??'s job.

So if LV got canned the next day, (s)he earned it by not understanding their industry and job, and not letting their manager do theirs. I don't want an additional welfare recipient on the roles, so I hope (s)he wasn't canned. But if (s)he doesn't soon understand his/her job (s)he will get canned ((s)he seems already to have plateaued in it!).

This is something that has me wondering whether LV really is a vet. Even if (s)he only did a single enlistment, (s)he didn't learn how to work with "difficult" superiors and peers and work within a chain of command?

The only exception I know is Academy Sports, where they have groups of employees, swarms, all over the store, dozens of kids, laughing, flirting, shooting the breeze with one another.

But always a half dozen customers lined up at the one open checkout lane.

I can only assume that Academy Sports launders money for some other enterprise.

We used to have a POS foremen that when giving updates/reports to upper management always said "we" did this and "we" are doing that etc when things were going well; willing to take credit for both the efforts of us on the floor and good luck ( easier to troubleshoot issues, parts in stock, enough manpower and other resources )....But would tacitly blame us on the floor for bad luck ( lack of resources, rare problems, bad weather etc ) even though we busted our buts to work through it. Then you'd hear "they" this and "they" that.

My conclusion was that I should utilize my talents and eventually create value in my own work as to where I didn't have to rely on others to be the gatekeepers to my success. I said "**** This Crap" in 2002, and after 13 years, it is one of the best decisions I have ever made.
