 CLYDE, Texas -

An off-duty Abilene police officer was found dead Monday evening in his residence on Yucca Drive in south Clyde.

According to an Abilene police spokesman, the death of the yet-to-be-identified male officer has been labeled "suspicious."

Texas Rangers are assisting Abilene police with the investigation.

The deceased officer's name, age and rank -- and the circumstances surrounding the death or who found the body -- weren't immediately released.

Abilene Police Sgt. Lynn Beard said additional information will be released in the coming days.
