Rivers Shut Down Over EPA's Spill Of 3 Million Gallons Of Toxic Water

In Colorado, New Mexico and Utah, towns that are downstream from the old gold mine that spewed contaminated wastewater into a river have shut off their water supplies' connections to the spill. Two rivers will remain closed until at least Monday, officials say.

The spill began last Wednesday, when an EPA cleanup team used heavy equipment to breach a dam at an abandoned mine in Colorado. They inadvertently released water that was laden with heavy metals and contaminants into a creek that flows into a river above Durango.

"The orange plume of wastewater leaked from the Gold King Mine in southwestern Colorado down the Animas River into New Mexico's San Juan River," Colorado Public Radio's Grace Hood reports. She adds that seven public water supply systems have been shut off in Colorado and New Mexico.

Water samples taken after the spill showed lead concentrations that were 3,500 times the levels normally seen in Durango. The wastewater also contains manganese, zinc, copper and cadmium, along with other contaminants.

Barry's EPA unleashed a heavy metal laden toxic spill into the Animas River last Wednesday.  It didn't interfere with Barry's weekend golf outing with TV star Larry David.

Heck of a job Barry!

1. We need to go after the people who profited from Mine.
The EPA didn't create the waste.
Barry's EPA didn't create the waste, they just released it into a river from where it has been sitting in safe containment for decades.

7. Well, the fishing will all be "catch and release" now ...

... so most of the poor fish will not see the inside of a frying pan.
Maybe the anglers could take up golf.
Now watch this drive.

6. Way to go, EPA. That photo is horrific.
Way to go Barry.

H-5 earned and given!

The EPA has been usurping power and fining/suing honest business people and property owners into bankruptcy for decades. In just this one F-Up the EPA created worse, real, pollution than those hundreds and thousands of victims of EPA tyranny ever did! The EPA needs to be put out of business and its manglement, from the lowest levels up to its head, imprisoned. I hear there's a nice suitable vacant facility with beautiful natural views situated in the middle of San Francisco Bay.

Anyone else think the head of the EPA looks like a bitter old lesbian?

11. Of course, Barry Obama is personally responsible for this.

At least that is the take I get when reading our step-sister site and other conservative cesspools. Apparently, someone named "Barry" walked hiked down there himself and punched a hole in the containment wall of a 1920's mine. I'm waiting for the post wherein they say he was just searching for his birth certificate.

Oh, please..  :whatever:

Anytime a business screws up and poisons the environment somehow, the EPA targets them, including the CEO. This time the business that screwed up was the EPA, and their 'CEO' is Obama. - Remember all those 'frog marched to the Hague' posts at DU over Iraq ? Did Bush go to Iraq, armed to the teeth, and start shooting down everything that moved ? - No, he didn't. *BUT* since he was the president at the time, DU and other liberal bastions were all too eager to pin every death on Bush.  What about Katrina ? even though people were told over and over again to leave, many didn't. And who did DU blame ? Bush. The BP oil spill ? even though it was in 2010, who did DU blame for 'lax regulations that contributed to it' ? -- That's right.. Bush.

So, now there is this mine, sealed off since the 1920's - long before the EPA and most environmental regulations existed. it is now 2015, & the EPA went in an opened it up, and accidentally released a nasty surprise. -one that will certainly damage the environment & wildlife for many years. It will also threaten the water supply for many people, including many Native Americans. And who does DU blame ?

The miners, and their descendants.

No,no no....
If you are going to play this game, you need to keep playing it by the rules you established. A government agency screwed up & who is in charge ? Who has been in charge for a presidential term and a half ? Obama. Not Bush. Not a bunch of dead miners who worked for a company that no longer exists long before the EPA was even considered. -So suck it up, Atman. This one is on you & your team.

I'm used to it. I directly challenge DUmmies frequently and I almost never get a response. The only poster I can remember who did was banesbane, and most of those responses were misdirected to things I never said nor implied. - she also tried to get under my skin by claiming I have 'reading comprehension' issues.

Think about it. All the women in the Obama Regime or appointed by him, look like bitter old lesbians.  Hell, come to think of it, most of the men look like bitter old lesbians, too.  That goes for every democrat administration in the recent past.

Experts See Long-Term Risks From Colorado Mine Spill
http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory/navajo-nation-feels-brunt-colorado-mine-leak-33029837

It is from AP, but posted at ABC News. EPA is not a friend of the environment. Case closed. Time to disband EPA.

Absolutely correct. Had this been BP, they'd be all over it. Had there been a republican president, they'd blame HIM/HER with no qualms. But, since it's their demi-god in the white house, all blame must be deflected. One thing I can't stand about liberals is, circle the wagons when a D is after their name, use all available firepower when a R is after their name. They have no desire to hold their own accountable. It disgusts me.
Liberals disgust me. (Now I don't have to remember to put it on each post).

Because only the left goes searching for that which is not there in a desperate attempt to be offended about something.

It looks a lot worse than it is.

That's pure mountain spring water compared to the slimy stew they'll have for the Olympics in Brazil next summer.

Normal people get violently ill from Brazilian tap water.

The Olympic rowers, sailors, and distance swimmers will be in the untreated sewage effluent from nearly 10 million people.
