Surprise!: George W. Bush Shows Up for Jury Duty in Dallas

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/george-w-bush-shows-jury-duty-dallas-n404661

He may have once been the leader of the free world but, on Wednesday, George W. Bush did what any ordinary citizen does when called upon: He reported for jury duty.

The former president spent a few hours fulfilling his civic duty and taking photos with a group of surprised potential jurors in Dallas, many of whom tweeted their pictures. Bush didn't get picked to sit on the jury.

"President Bush received his jury summons and reported for service this morning at the George Allen Courts Building in Dallas," Freddy Ford, Bush's communications director, said in a statement. "He sat through the jury selection panel for a case in Judge Eric Moye's court on the 14th civil district but — surprise! — was not picked to serve as a juror."...

Bush has been largely out of the spotlight recently. His brother, former Florida governor and presidential contender Jeb Bush, will participate in the first GOP debate in the 2016 presidential race on Thursday.

Pity. I would have loved to see how he managed to steal the election for foreman.

Bush would have blamed the crime on Saddam Hussein.

If this was happy pants Clinton or Carter you DUmmies would be gushing. Hypocrites.

Clinton, Carter, their wives, Obama and his pet wookie would have all gotten out of the hassle of even showing up.

Yeah, it's not like jury duty is compulsory or anything. :lmao:

But consider ... how many jury duty summonses might Bill & Hill have ducked? And maybe BHO and Mooch-chelle. GWB showing up for jury duty might make Tsaritsa Chill look bad.

In all the decades I've been eligible, I've only been called once, and got excused for being out of the country.

It seems like most people I know have been called more than once, but I don't know anyone who's been picked to actually serve on a jury.

They tell me if you get called, report for duty wearing a suit and you will never have to sit on a jury.

I wouldn't mind serving. If I ever get called again I'm going to show up in a sweatshirt and ball cap.

I'll probably be betrayed by being clean-shaven with a civilized haircut.

I've been called one time to serve, got out of it because I was needed at the post office that day.

If I ever get the chance again, I'm gonna be wearing my "Rush Is Right" hat.   :-)

Did a six month stint on a grand jury and two other juries (retired person) and, enjoyed them very much.  The grand jury was just like watching "cops" except you get to drop the hammer on the morons at the end.

The most surefire method of avoiding jury duty is to wait for the Judge to allow folks with "special" excuses to come up to the bench.  When your turn comes lean in and whisper, Judge, I'm incontinent.

Actually, if GWB skipped out on jury duty and they heard of it they'd be howling for his arrest and imprisonment.

Thanks, I need all I can get.  I had a friend tell me he saw a guy pull that one.  Probably works best when you are my age but, since I'm retired, I find it a nice distraction.
