Court rules that chimpanzees are NOT people after animal-rights campaigners try to get 'personhood' rights for two apes held in New York research lab

Two chimpanzees will not be freed from a New York state university lab where they're used in locomotion studies after a court decision on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit that had sought to afford them legal personhood rights.


State Supreme Court Justice Barbara Jaffe threw out Nonhuman Rights Project's attempt to have the eight-year-old chimps, Hercules and Leo, relocated to Florida - saying she was bound by a decision from a state appeals court that dismissed a similar case by the group.

The animal-rights campaigners had claimed that because chimpanzees are highly intelligent, autonomous animals, they have a right not to be imprisoned against their will.

Correct ruling in New York. Those animal rights groups are crazy and terroristic right next to ISIS and Al Qaeda.

Not only was this case frivolous, based on the previous appeals court ruling on an identical case, but that previous case had been brought by the same group. This group and their lawyers need to be sanctioned, not allowed to file any lawsuits for at least 5 years.
