10. Walking home from work with my paycheck in cash in my pocket

Lived in Columbia Heights back before it had a Target (or even a 7-11). Cop sees me, asks why I'm in the neighborhood, I tell him I'm going home, and he searches me for money, and thinks I'm there to buy drugs. I can either give him the money or go to jail, and since I need the money to not get evicted (I'm already behind) I pick jail. Luckily I got a cheap bond (privilege! and no I'm not being sarcastic there) and could still pay my landlord. Lots of Ramen that month, though. (I was working for a job that infuriatingly only paid once, at the beginning of the month, in a hard check, and I didn't have a bank account because I couldn't wait a couple of weeks with illiquid money.)

(Ironically, now that I'm on the grid I'd probably love a lump payment on the 1st of every month.)

Did the cop jump out of the bushes?

23. Excellent point

you can't change your ways if you are shot in the street

And I have another huge advantage: I'm at a "genteel" enough level of employment now that nobody asks if I have a criminal record (charges were dropped, but what if they hadn't been? I found out that carrying cash in my own neighborhood is in fact a crime, apparently). Ironically, it would have been easier for me to get the next job I went to (an administrator at a datacenter -- that's it's own story and the reason I hope I never work at a for-profit again) than to go back to my previous job driving a forklift, because the warehouse would have pulled my rap sheet and the datacenter didn't.

17. Never been arrested...

But the first time I got pulled over is an example of white privilege. Back in the early 90s, and I was early twenties. Had had very little contact with police, and kinda slow on the uptake sometimes. Heard a siren, didn't think it was for me for longer than I should have, when I knew it was for me I actually waited and took the next exit to get to a wider/safer spot to pull over. It was to let me know I had a break light out and I got a fix it ticket and a "just pull over on the shoulder next time" friendly warning. I can't help feeling things likely would have gone differently if I were a black man and not a 5 foot tall white woman.

I'm no shocked at any of this. Nice they all included some bouncys.

The only time I've been inside a police car, I sat in the back seat to fill out a report after a democrat had broken into my parked car and stole some stuff.

I learned you can't open the door from the inside. Makes sense, but I was startled at the time.

Like most normal non-democrat people, I've never even known anyone who's been arrested.

I never did drugs. I don't drink or smoke. Chemicals have never made me lose control.
I have been furious, but I never resorted to violence.

I have 50+ years of obeying the law under my belt. Apart from a few traffic tickets, I've never had a reason to even speak to a cop.
That said, I lived a great life. I have great friends, I go to hilarious parties, and I have strong relationships.

I have never understood the wild ones who's lives seem to be one long interaction with the police. I'm not an old fuddy dud, but hard drinking and speeding never appealed to me. I have back packed the Rockies, been threatened by bears and bulls, explored old indian ruins, climbed into caves, braved creaking abandoned mines, hiked dormant volcanoes....I know adventure, but I do not needlessly endanger my life.

The op is nothing to brag about. Activists who brag about how many protests they were arrested at have nothing to be proud of...what did Occupy accomplish? Not a single thing.

If being a Christian or a Conservative become crimes in the near future, then yes: there will be plenty of evidence to convict me.

Ralph has never been arrested. I've done a lot of stupid things, got a couple "Minor in Possession of Alcohol" fines, and maybe 3 speeding tickets. But every encounter with police have been polite & respectful.

Last time I interacted with the police was for a burnt out BRAKE light. I pulled right over and got out of the truck and asked him what was wrong. He told me it was the light and he was giving me a "fix-It" ticket. Well those tickets now cost $20 bucks so I said let me fix it now. He tried to get away but I used the "You do want this taken care of as soon as possible for safety reasons." and he waited about five minutes as I took off the lens and put in a new bulb. We told jokes while I fixed it.

I was polite and so was he. The cop was latino. I guess it was all white privilege or white-Hispanic privilege.
When you are the beneficiary of someone’s kindness and generosity, it produces a sense of gratitude and community.

When you are the beneficiary of a policy that steals from someone and gives it to you in return for your vote, it produces a sense of entitlement and dependency.

My criminal history spans over two tickets. One for running a red light, the other for running a stop sign.

In the case of the red light, I was behind an 18-wheeler and didn't know the light had changed, as I couldn't see it. And the stop sign was because I was driving through unfamiliar territory at night. Neither ticket resulted in any sort of beatings or handcuffs. The primitives would call it 'white privilege'. Reality calls it 'not mouthing off to the cops'.
