Obama-backed trade bill fails in the House
Quote

President Obama suffered a major defeat to his Pacific Rim free trade initiative Friday as House Democrats helped derail a key presidential priority despite his last-minute, personal plea on Capitol Hill.

The House voted 302 to 126 to sink a measure to grant financial aid to displaced workers, fracturing hopes at the White House that Congress would grant Obama fast-track trade authority to complete an accord with 11 other Pacific Rim nations.

“I will be voting to slow down fast-track,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said on the floor moments before the vote, after keeping her intentions private for months. “Today we have an opportunity to slow down. Whatever the deal is with other countries, we want a better deal for American workers.”

The democrats sided with conservative republicans to defeat this bill.
I think hell just froze over.

I am amazed quite frankly and quite happy that this was defeated. Sad that Cruz went along with Barry on this one.
I believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed, a democracy in a republic, a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes. I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.

I want this bill defeated as much as any other conservative.  Lord, ya'll are probably sick of all my posts on this.
Yes, it was a good defeat, & I give the credit to that far lefty, Nancy Pelosi.  I'm guessing she probably did it because of Unions threatening reprisals @ elections.  Doesn't matter, it was a good call.
But, yes, unfortunately there's a but, Benedict Boehner will have another House vote this Tuesday.
So over the weekend, I imagine, there'll be alot of arm twisting, promises, promises, & that's what we're up against.

"The alternative is to use Boehner’s motion to reconsider the TAA. If that passes, and the source says a vote would probably not take place until Tuesday, then the House and Senate bills will be identical and Obama could just sign it. However, TAA would have to pick up more than 80 votes between now and then. That would mean a large number of Republicans would have to pitch in on TAA. Are there that many to be found? Probably not."

This is a bill that favored big biz & cheap foreign labor under the guise of free trade.  It also had many other anti-American features.

"In the United States, this means the L-1 intra-company transferee, B-1 business visitor visa programs, and any other applicable visa programs could be used to permit temporary employees from abroad to work in the United States, and no economic needs tests (i.e., testing the labor market) could ever be imposed by Congress.

I'm kind of glad about Cruz.  Because of his Obamatrade support, we have a clearer picture of who he is.

A black eye for Obama.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin

"I'm kind of glad about Cruz.  Because of his Obamatrade support, we have a clearer picture of who he is."  This is very true; however, I still think so far he's better than any other the other candidates, except perhaps Perry and maybe we would be better served if he were to remain in place. The only candidate remaining that didn't side with Obama's fast tracking was Paul...not very reassuring at all. Also keep in mind, that this was merely a vote against the "fast tracking" by the President on the TPP.  I anticipate that the Trans Pacific Partnership will still take place, just with a little more scrutiny.  This is definitely for right now a feather in the DEM's cap.

If there is any doubt that Obamatrade might be a good deal for America, permit me to provide the evidence that may put that doubt to rest.
In a last minute push, 27 executives from companies (couldn't find the entire list) which included "AT&T, IBM, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, eBay, Cisco, Intel and Xerox" sent a letter to House members urging passage of Obamatrade.

It is clear to me these companies want to overlook American workers, & expand the hiring of lower cost workers.  Anything to increase their bottom line.  Please don't think I'm anti-business.  But this smells of greed & a shafting of American jobs.
