With three men killed in eastside shootings on Sunday, Baltimore recorded its deadliest month in more than 40 years..

The 43 killings in May surpassed the 42 homicides the city saw in August 1990, and left Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake defending police and her administration.

Speaking at a morning ceremony to honor McKenzie Elliott, the 3-year-old killed by a stray bullet in August, Rawlings-Blake said it's time to stop finger-pointing and assigning blame for the recent violence.

The killing of African-Americans in Baltimore has to stop, she said, noting that 189 of the 208 killed last year were black men. For the city to improve, all homicides need to drop, she added.

"We have to do better," the mayor said. "We have to want more."

Wait a few ticks. Let's have a quick think about this.

• Fully 91% of homicides in Baltimore involve a black person being killed, almost exclusively by other black people.
• There were 43 killings in May, attributed to the slowdown in police activity.

Apparently, they're upset all cops can't get away with killing people. IMHO, if they don't want to do their jobs, fire them and hire a new force.

     So on DU it is held as a general truism that more policing = fewer murders. Of mostly black people. By mostly black people.

     Don't these new data imply that Baltimore police are actually pretty effective? I thought black lives matter? Where are the community activists? Since
the cops are (intelligently) protecting themselves from the Mayor and from the overzealous Mosby, where are the activists? Can't they step in and keep the streets
safe? Where's Sharpton? Where's Jesse Jackson? Is the gang truce still on? Where's sanctimonious dickhead David Simon?

     Ever since Rodney King the DUmmies have clamored for more lax policing. Well, DUmmies, you get your wish. We already know from the weekly carnage in
Chicago that black lives don't mean anything to you, so it's not surprising that you're not all up in arms about what's going on in Baltimore. And it's going to get
a lot worse when those ridiculous charges get reduced or tossed out altogether by adults who follow the actual law.

Cops are becoming more reluctant to intervene because in this current climate, they're afraid that intervening with any amount of force (Which would be required in a city with as bad of a crime rate as Baltimore) will result in some punk leveling a baseless accusation of brutality against them ("You're putting me in handcuffs? BRUTALITY!" "You tazed me after I lunged at you with a knife? BRUTALITY!"), which in turn will lead to being brought up on charges, being pilloried by overzealous politicians trying to look enlightened and earn votes, and more rioting in the streets by rabid, lawless activists who just want to destroy and loot everything in sight for no reason.
