Thank you to all who served
« on: May 22, 2015, 06:39:28 PM »
I receive emails from a superb organization.
Not to worry, I'm not soliciting anything.
Just wanted to share the good work they do for so many, including our vets.
"Our veterans and active duty service members sacrifice so much in service to our nation. Join us in showing our appreciation by sending a special message of thanks today."

We were fortunate to train @ CCI for 2 weeks in Santa Rosa, CA & took home our beautiful Bevi, a black lab, on 2/14/2003.
He fit right in as a skilled companion for our son, who has autism.
This beautiful canine brought so much love into our home, & eased much of our son's loneliness.  He learned to fetch items for him. Derek was always opening cabinet drawers, & there was Bevi, closing them. He'd get his videos, shoes, books, but mostly he gave so much affection & was so endearing.  He proudly wore his vest on outings & our "team" stayed calm.
Bevi passed away October '14.  We still miss him so much.

Here are some stories from our veterans:

Velvet is a good girl and  an exemplary service dog.
I know first hand.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

There's no doubt Velvet is special....& beautiful as well.  You're lucky to have her.  It's karma that she came into your life.

This is a beautiful tribute to 7 sons from Pittsburg, PA, who served in WWII.  Also honorable mention to all: "six Pittsburgh-area mothers, all of Polish descent, who had 33 sons in service."

Ted Walters, Stella's son, who did not serve because he was too young:  "Stella Pietkiewicz, had seven sons serve in WW II. She had the honor to christen the plane, Spirit of Poles, because she had the most sons who served in WW II.”  All 7 survived the war.  Sadly, Stella did not.  She died of cancer before the war ended.  Only Ted & his sister Hope, are today still living.

Author of the article:  "How can we repay families like these for their sacrifices 70 years ago? We can start by not destroying the America they were willing to die for."

The below is something that I wrote yesterday as Memorial Day approached.

For freedom to survive and liberty to stand tall
the brave are called to give and often some give all.
May all who have fought to prevent our desolation
know they have the thanks of a very grateful nation.
“Don’t vote for the person who tells you you deserve something. Just don’t do it if it’s something other than life, liberty, or the pursuit of possible happiness. If everyone is telling you you deserve something, vote for the one who is promising you the least. Be suspicious of the man or woman who tell you deserve everything. Because you don’t.” ---Mike Rowe

At basic training at Fort Sill several years ago, the Commanding Officer asked the crowd of parents, family members and well wishers by a show of hands how many had served in our military.
I was expecting to see a few hands, but at least 75% of the crowd had their hands up along with mine.
I was pleasantly shocked.
I thought I would be proud of my son that day for graduating from basic training, but I left even prouder.
I also came to realize that there is a warrior elite lineage that renews the tradition of service to our country in our country's armed forces.
I only hope to see any grandchildren carry on the tradition.
And if their CO asks for a show of hands, this time I will be expecting to see another showcase of the warrior elite.

Thank you all you Vets on the forum, all my fellow cavers who have served...thank you for your sacrifice and service.

By the way, does anyone remember owebuma's first memorial day asp president ?
The inept one had no idea what memorial day was all about.
I think we have immortalized him in the gaffes thread, but if it's not in there it should be.

I still to this day marvel at how wholly unqualified owebuma was and is to be this nation's president.
Since President is a title it is supposed to be capitalized, but for him I don't. He doesn't deserve the least amount of respect.
He certainly hasn't earned any from me.
What he has earned is copious amounts of contempt.

When did your son go through Sill? I did my time there in 1992.
The libs/dems of today are the Quislings of former years. The cowards who would vote a fraud into office in exchange for handouts from the devil.

What he has earned is copious amounts of contempt.

In 1964, I had an economics professor that was a bit of a Revolutionary and Civil War history nutcase. He made a statement that has stuck with me all these years. "Our countries wars have come in roughly 20 year cycles or to each new generation of the same families to fight our wars."

It appears to me that it pretty much still holds true today.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

"America is like a healthy body and its resistance is threefold: its patriotism, its morality, and its spiritual life. If we can undermine these three areas, America will collapse from within."  Stalin
