NASHVILLE - The U.S. Attorney's office says a federal jury in the public corruption trial of former state Sen. John Ford has found him guilty on all charges.

David Bowling, spokesman for the federal prosecutors, said the Memphis Democrat was found guilty Friday morning on two charges of wire fraud and four charges of making false statements on official documents.

He is accused of accepting more than $800,000 from TennCare contractors Doral Dental Services and OmniCare of Memphis while promoting their interests as a lawmaker.

The wire fraud charges each carry a maximum penalty of 20 years. The false statement charges carry a maximum penalty of five years each.

Both sides gave their closing arguments Wednesday and jury began deliberations Thursday morning. The trial began July 1 in Nashville.

NASHVILLE - Sen. John Ford has used campaign money to pay for a wedding and thousands of dollars in payments to the mothers of his children, filings show.

The Memphis Democrat has been the focus of scrutiny recently over a child support fight that raised questions about whether he lives in the district he represents and whether he failed to disclose more than $200,000 of income from a TennCare subcontractor.

An examination by WTVF-TV of Ford's campaign financial disclosures to the state shows thousands of dollars in questionable spending.

Ford, who has testified during a child support hearing that he maintains two different homes with two different families, has been making payments of out of campaign money to the women who head those households and to a third woman challenging him on the child support.

The Nashville TV station also reported that Ford used campaign money to pay for portions of his daughter's wedding, including the cake, video and a singer.

Almost $11,000 from political contributors also was paid to Karen Michelle Snell, a former Ford assistant who was once involved in a brawl with his ex-wife.

SNIP

The records show that in the last two years girlfriend Connie Matthews, mother of two of Ford's children, was paid $18,400 for "professional services."

"It could be anything," Rawlins said of the payments. "It could be work done on his campaign. It could be that she worked in his district."

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle

'bout damn time! now I wonder what kind of sentence he will get.

Have you noticed that Harold is now one of NBC's political analysts?   :puke:

Yes. He's popped up on Fox a few times as well. Ugh. That entire family is rotten to the core.

Harold's new wife contributed to Steve Cohen's opponents campaign. It was before they got married. Really slimy.

Which charge?  The corruption or the bribery?  :evillaugh:

We got lucky keeping Ford Jr. out of office.  As far as I'm concerned, Obama is a carbon copy of that one.

I've thought that too. I would bet that if Obama is elected, Ford will be a part of his administration.

Here's John Ford's sister Ophelia.  She took his seat in the state Senate.  Hasn't done much as she's not there often.  Has a tendency to drink a bit...

...well that too.  I doubt those 13 voters were breathing at the time they voted.    :fuelfire:
