My Commuter survived so much, even being on the streets with me. But it took one College kid to destroy it! He said his was on the frits and need to finish a paper. So I let him come over to use mine. Went to check mail and came back to an abolished screen and some sort of liquid pored on it. He said he knocked it of an the screen stated smoking and he pored soda on it to put it out!

So I am sad to report that I am shopping for a new computer.

There are so many choses out there. I don't know where to start. thinking of the surface but there are some others I an looking at to.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like the fat leech was eating and drinking around her laptop and accidentally knocked a can of soda into her laptop.  Being a Dummy, she tried to wash the laptop with water.  Now she's blaming a mysterious third party for her own stupidity.

Maybe MS's Windows-based tablet is different, but Android tablets cannot do even basic file management outside of what an app does for files it creates. Tablets are not substitutes for a desktop or a laptop. Unless ALL she does is email, websurfing, and maybe using Google Maps.

Macs are PRICEY! If money is short for her, she should buy a low-mid range PC, load it up with memory, and pray the power supply lasts long enough to save up $$ to buy something better. BTW, the Deciduous Fruit Computer Company located 10-15 minutes north of me by way of SR85 buys from the same power supply companies from which Dell and HP buy (I worked for one of those power supply companies and walked some of the hallways of Infinite Loop back in 2000), as well as the same drives, and using the same assembly houses in Asia. There are people who live in their cars and scrape together enough $$ every month for a month-by-month 24-hour gym membership. They park in the gym parking lot at night and use the restrooms and showers at the gym. So I can imagine sneaking into a Starbucks, buying a coffee and recharging the laptop could be done; Starbucks hereabouts also have free Wi-Fi.
