Baltimore's newly installed top prosecutor faces big test

BALTIMORE –  Baltimore's chief prosecutor is just 35 years old and has been on the job for less than four months. Now she's facing the biggest challenge of her career: deciding whether evidence supports criminal charges against police officers in the death of Freddie Gray.

State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby ousted an established white opponent by promising to hold police accountable. She accused him of being too cozy with officers and out of touch with residents.

Mosby and her husband, a city councilman, are black and live just blocks from the poverty-stricken community where riots broke out following Gray's funeral.

Some question her ties to Billy Murphy, the attorney representing Gray's family and a big donor to Mosby's election campaign last year. And even her supporters say Mosby's close ties to the community won't save her from criticism.

It's only a "biggest challenge of her career" if the incident has been hyped and politicized or she's a political - rather than professional - figure. Both are the case, so the challenge may turn out to be whether she can overcome her politics and do what the facts indicate is correct.

if this does go to trial, the jury selection process alone will be a 3 ringed circus with sharpton as the ring master demanding a stacked deck of "his people" in the jury box.

There's no real downside for her.  She appeases the mob and becomes a hero, strengthening further political ambitions as well as her husband's.  If she gets convictions then she's a hero forever.  If she doesn't, the DOJ will step in and cover as they've tried to do in the Zimmerman and Ferguson cases and she can claim racism for her loss.

Baltimore will be devastated but what does that matter?

Guess which ones are found guilty and how much time they get.
