CA, in this respect, is like two states. Divide it along a sort of ovoid curve starting at Jenner on the north coast, east to the edge of the Sacramento Valley, follow the eastern slope of the Coast ranges south through the Tehachapis to the East side of Palm Springs and then slant south toward the border of Mexico, staying east of San Diego. That coastal ~1/4 of CA has a much higher cost of living than the Central Valley, Inland Empire, Siskyous, and the coast north of Jenner.
If The Vaccine is deadly as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, millions now living would have died.
