It was a black woman that attacked the teacher. That being said, there is her claim of the kid saying that the teacher had "put hands on her". Will that claim be investigated? Still, it wouldn't justify attempted murder unless the teacher committed sexual assault.

white "teacher." My first, cynical, thought on reading the thread title was that the attacker was probably black and the teacher probably white. I hated being right! I wonder how many of the many, many, decent law-abiding black people in the US who do not make the evening news or newspapers - because decent, law-abiding people (of any color) aren't news - were similarly cynical and sad at being right in their cynicism.

As I posted above, I'm pretty sure this thugette's claim will prove to be entirely false or beyond grossly exaggerated. Now, if the investigators have to interview her in a hospital room (due to some action of the teacher), my cynical speculation will have been proved wrong. That said, there are right ways and wrong ways of handling such matters, and beating and strangling some one unconscious is a very wrong way - even if the 12YO girl were in the hospital (which I think very very very ... very extremely unlikely!).
Adding to what I posted above - something I forgot to post then - if I were a teacher, my ancestry being entirely European, I would refuse to teach at that school, and strongly consider a career change. I have some understanding of the passion many teachers have for what they can do in their profession, but our "family" culture, legal environment, and educratic cowardice and PCism have made teachers targets. It's gotten to the point where decent people's lives are being devastated through PC-shibboleths and teachers are being physically attacked. It's time for decent teachers to consider "shrugging" - for the sake of their families and their, literally, lives.
