He promised to change his misguided ways if he got a new heart, but evidently troubled Anthony Stokes was unable to make good on those vows.

The Georgia teen died Tuesday after a botched home invasion, crashing a stolen car and ending the troubled life that was extended back in 2013, when he got a controversial heart transplant.

Stokes, 17, wrecked the carjacked sedan into a pole as he tried to flee police, authorities said, and the elderly Roswell woman he shot during a botched robbery was in stable condition in a hospital.

I agree the man "wasted" the incredible gift he received.  He wasted his first shot, too, it seems.

I doubt the emotional and subjective "I'll turn my life around, if only..." had anything to do with his getting the transplant. the teams who make those decisions go with the objective info.  Often, knowing little else about the potential recipients.  He was probably the best candidate, health wise, at the time.

My understanding of the story was that the recipient was previously denied the transplant because of being non compliant.
It's as if the powers that be understood what a waste it would be.

What are the chances that GA and US taxpayers footed the bill for that transplant, after-surgery care, and the anti-rejection meds he had to be on for the rest of his (now abbreviated) life?
