What Exactly Congress Is Spending Your Dollars On
« on: March 29, 2015, 10:07:08 AM »

Notice that the big players are Social Security @ 24.3¢ and Medicaid/Medicare @ 26.3¢ on the tax dollar.

Okay. So, what can be done about it? Any bright ideas?

Every time congress votes to spend a million dollars, each member has to cough up a dollar out of their own pocket. They would all be broke in a few days and go home.
“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of ‘liberalism’, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.” - Norman Thomas, U.S. Socialist Party presidential candidate 1940, 1944 and 1948

Does that portion allotted for defense also include veterans benefits or is that paid counted somewhere else?

I do know that a lot of defense spending goes to the civilian workforce of contractors, but I wonder how much actually goes to civilian salaries.

As for getting the budget under control, cut 1% of spending every year for 10 years.

That chart is somewhat skewed.
For instance, right or wrong... SS even though one of the biggest expenditures is also the most ostensibly funded.
There were only two options for gender. At last count there are at least 12, according to libs. By that standard, I'm a male lesbian.

Has SS and medicare reached the point that they pay out more than they take in?  Those funds should never have been included in the budget process.

They're in AlGore's "lockbox".
As for liquidity, SS was a scam at it's outset.
When lobbying for the bill and knocking on doors, the people were told they would have benefits from the proposed program they never paid into.
Now that's starting off in the red.

SS was an unconstitutional helpmeet for those who were of an age they could not work, had no savings and no family/church to help them. Before tat we had "old folks homes".

The politicos quickly turned SS into a Ponzi scheme for buying votes. The only way for itto work point forward is to remove the upper limit on the SS taxes and include all interest and capital gains tobe taxed as well. Ain't gonna happen.

The only way to fix social security is to make all government employees be forced into it, including the president and all congresscritters.

70% goes for entitlements.....democrat votes.

When we finally go slam broke and the freebie well dries up, brass, lead and powder will be the only social security we will have.

That would help, but more than that's needed.

About the only way to "save" Social Security is by immediately reverting back to what it'd been when it started circa 1937; only for those 65 years old or older, and only for those who paid into the system.

Of course it's draconian, but hey, it's the only fix that'll work.

Those funds should never have been included in the budget process.

That's the approach people take when they talk about defense spending being the dominant component of the budget.  Whether Medicare even comes close to paying its own way is something I'm pretty doubtful about.

SSDI needs to go away, or at least called something else. There are people who no fault of their own, that could never support themselves.

I don't know, but they have talked about medicare going broke before long. Funny thing is they say the same about Social Secuity, but they never say that about welfare, SSDI or medicaid going broke.

Those that do not contribute should get zero benefits.

Right; and while it may seem draconian, or even "mean," that's what has to be done, to save Social Security.
