Why do Republicans Hate and Bash Science?
   
As I read all these headlines and posts about the RWNJ assembly we now call Congress, it occurs to me why they hate science so much... they would have to provide empirical evidence that their BS (and their claims of improvement, etc.) is actually doable and/or probable if we do things their way. Since it's all BS, they can't be backing the methodology which would back up their claims. If they did have to provide the evidence, we would see who actually pays them to screw us over at every turn - that would be pay they receive above and beyond the inflated salaries, guaranteed income and healthcare for life they already get from we the taxpayers.

Just a thought that arrived with my coffee.

2. A lot of reasons - some of them having to do with religion.

The religious GOPers think God is either going to fix everything, or that the End Times are coming, so nothing needs to be done about sciencey notions like climate change. They don't want to accept evolution as true because that's not what the Bible says; the earth is only 6,000 years old and God put all those fake fossils in the ground to test their faith. The less religious GOPers don't want to believe climate change is real because they don't want the bad old gummint to tell them they might have to give up their gas-guzzling Hummers and Suburbans and their ATVs and motorboats, and stop watering and dumping chemicals on their vast green golf-course-like lawns in their all-white gated communities.

3. Science/history conflicts with their policy goals - lower taxes, less government, more profit so

rather than adjust their policy goals to reflect science/history they adjust science/history (as much as they can which is enough to fool a lot of conservatives) to fit their policy goals.

is not enforced by science. Rather than give up their beliefs they've pretty much haven't to give up on science. The results are predictably grim on this approach to life.

No smooth-talking, no connections, no spin, no rewording, no law-passing will change the outcome.
You cannot control science.
It does its thing and cares not. a. little. bit. about what you want or what your ideology says.

That's why Republicans regard science as not trustworthy.

Why do liberals deny scientific fact? Science has proven that a human egg fertilized by human sperm will only result in the birth of a healthy human baby if there is no outside interference or medical problems.  Yet they refuse that fact and call it a clump of cells, a tumor or worse.

This is absolutely not true. Science can be and is controlled the same way other things are controlled; via funding, peer pressure, suppressing facts or unfavorable research, etc.

Every scientists is a human being. Every human being starts with a basic set of beliefs. Based on these beliefs, questions are asked that lead to research.

Liberals are misanthropes and vitaphobes so the conclusions they favor tend to be anti-human and anti-life. And like most humans, they see the facts that support such conclusions and see anything that challenges these preconceptions as "outliers" and what not.

Yep, SCIENCE proves that every unborn human is fully human, but that fact must be ignored in the face of "Mom's feelings."

SCIENCE shows how incredible is the idea that DNA, RNA and a working cell could arise from dead stuff without any supernatural help, so that fact must be ignored.

SCIENCE shows that mutations are almost 100% bad, so that fact must be ignored to account for the millions/billions of years of good mutations that (without any supernatural help) caused that first (miraculous) cell to develop into humans and elephants and kangaroos and platypus (es? i?). 

SCIENCE teaches that the young of every creature is that same type of creature, but that fact must also be ignored, because EVOLUTION!!!!!

As to climate change, as I've mentioned before, I personally have seen constant summertime temperature differences of 10 degrees F between several Kansas towns...there are a couple towns, one of them being Salina, that is always much, much warmer than most of the state, officially, but only during hot summer days.  It is painfully obvious that the official thermometer is placed in an area that is causing it to reflect higher temps than it should during the summer, but not during the other seasons.  It doesn't take many misplaced thermometers to cause the average to appear higher than it is.

A lot of "settled" science and progressive pols and pundits went "there" in the latter half of the 19th Century and first half of the 20th (until Hitler and other racists gave eugenics, social Darwinism, and race theories a malodorous name). Kipling's "The White Man's Burden embodied the less malign, help-your-inferiors, side of the racial Darwinism coin.
