OCALA — A Summerfield woman said she blurted without thinking a couple choice words for a county judge during jury selection at the Marion County Courthouse Monday morning—ones which had landed her in jail by the end of the day. “Sometimes I get upset and I say things,†Sarah E. Muller said during an interview with the Star-Banner at the Marion County Jail Booking Center late Monday afternoon. “I didn't know I would go to jail for freedom of speech.â€Faced with the prospect of serving as a juror and upset that County Judge R. James McCune Jr. denied her request for dismissal, the 23-year-old insulted the presiding judge by calling him a two-syllable curse word—a crude term referring to the anus (she called him a "Feces Exit"??) — within earshot of several of the other 178 potential jurors seated in the Jury Assembly Room. When the judge asked Muller to clarify her remark, Muller repeated it. He charged her on the spot with direct criminal contempt of the court — a second-degree misdemeanor— and Muller was promptly handcuffed by a court bailiff and taken into custody.-article excerpt concluded, continued at posted link-
The Founding Fathers would be shocked and appalled at how so many people today are misusing the phrase "freedom of speech."
Time and place lady. Time and place. You can call him everything under the sun. Once you're safely done with the court and jury duty. Go stand on a street corner. As long as you're not telling lies and want to take the chance on being sued, knock yourself out. But in front the judge in his courtroom? Do so at your own peril moron.
Wonder what her DU screenname is?

Or at least have the sense to preface your rant with the phrase: "With all due respect, your honor". It's not foolproof (which, admittedly in your case, probably means you're screwed anyway), but it at least gives the judge a - thin - pretext for not locking your ass up for contempt of court.

Incidentally if you ever want to get out of jury duty just act like a nazi during the selection process.Tell them you think jaywalkers ought to be flogged in public and that drunk drivers need to be on chain gangs or do hard labor for three years. Ask how come they don't publically whip people for shoplifting.Surprisingly they WILL pass on you.

Jury pools and jury call & selection are a strange phenomenon. I know some folks that have been called up and seated numerous times through out the yrs. I have only been called up 2 times and never selected. One time I was queried by both lawyers and even the judge for about 20 minutes but alas never selected. Guess they don't want anyone that can't be sidetracked by a song and dance and will just go with the evidence presented ??
