There are lots of posts about the 50th anniversary of the violence on the Selma to Montgomery march at democrat underground today.  Take this one for example, it highlights civil rights icon John Lewis--just kidding, of course it is all about the POS used car salesman Barry.  Over the years John Lewis may have become a doddering old fool and a shameless party hack, but 50 years ago he did take a stand and risk life and limb in the cause of civil rights.  Barry has always been about looking out for Barry.

That speech has renewed my pride and my optimism. One of his best, IMO.

I must admit that I missed Barry's speech, but I can see from the picture that he had his teleprompter there with him so I have no doubt that it was a good speech.

10. MSNBC stopped covering it after the president walked into the crowd. They are going to cover the

walk over the bridge tomorrow afternoon. Apparently they do not think it is all that important. Is this part of their move to the center?

Pettus served as chairman of the state delegation to the Democratic National Convention for more than two decades.[1] In 1877, Pettus was named Grand Dragon of the Alabama Ku Klux Klan, during the final year of Reconstruction.[1] With earnings from his law practice, he bought farm land. [1]

In 1896, at the age of 75, Pettus ran for U.S. Senate as a Democrat and won, beating incumbent James L. Pugh. His campaign relied on his successes in organizing and popularizing the Alabama Klan and his virulent opposition to the constitutional amendments following the Civil War that elevated former slaves to the status of free citizens.[1] On March 4, 1897, he was elected to the U.S. Senate, and was re-elected in 1903.

I can't stand to watch Obozo's speeches, the artificially-constructed drama is too much BS for me.  I did catch a fragment of it while trying to check the news instead, though, and he actually seemed to be finally saying something constructive, to the effect that great progress had actually been made and it was wrong to act like it hadn't (Notwithstanding all his other speeches about how Da Man keepin' all the people of color down since forever and shit).

I know that a white preacher was murdered; but that wasn't during the Bloody Sunday march...it was during the second march/

Troopers, police, and marchers confronted each other, but when the troopers stepped aside to let them pass, King led the marchers back to the church.[4] He was obeying a federal injunction while seeking protection from federal court for the march. That night, a white group beat and murdered civil rights activist James Reeb, a Unitarian Universalist minister from Boston, who had come to Selma to march in the second march.[5] Many other clergy and sympathizers from across the country also attended the second march.
