WTC 7: Fires Fuelled by Office Furnishings. Be AFRAID

uh... yeah... I guess it would make sense that a fire would burn shit that is combustable... like furnature?  :o

1. Is this why they make the smokers go outside? They don't want them accidentally lighting up the office furnishings because the whole building would come down? LOL

No... they make smokers go outside because leftists forced them to. Now- you can't even smoke outside. It's for the children...

Make the measurements yourself!
In discussing my measurement of the freefall of Building 7 with one (reluctant) physics professor, the professor at one point protested, “I’ll take your word for it, for the sake of argument, but I have no way to confirm your claims for myself.”

That comment astounded me because I see the motion of the building as such a straightforward measurement. But upon reflection I recalled all the time and energy and collaboration that went into gathering all the necessary materials and information for the measurement: a suitable video, an appropriate software tool to make measurements on the video, calibration data, knowledge of video formats, etc. I realized that even with the requisite knowledge base and skill set, it would take a very motivated person to reproduce my measurements. I therefore collected together all the bits and pieces that went into my measurement and present them here as a kit that can be used by a physics teacher or handed to a motivated physics student as a lab assignment or project or science fair entry. The skills that will be learned in the process will serve a physics student well for other projects that might involve using video as a measuring tool.

All the tools and material needed are free and downloadable here:

Maybe I am thick but if I remember my physics correctly ... I'm far from being a physics expert and figured this would be a good place to ask a beginner question that has been confusing me for some time.

According to Galileo, two bodies of different masses, dropped from the same height, will touch the floor at the same time in the absence of air resistance.

BUT Newton's second law states that a=F/m , with a  the acceleration of a particle, m  its mass and F  the sum of forces applied to it.

I understand that acceleration represents a variation of velocity and velocity represents a variation of position. I don't comprehend why the mass, which is seemingly affecting the acceleration, does not affect the "time of impact".

{Frank's Answer} it is because the Force at work here (gravity) is also dependent on the mass

gravity acts on a body with mass m with

F=mg

you will plug this in to

F=ma

and you get

ma=mg  a=g

and this is true for all bodies no matter what the mass is. Since they are accelerated the same and start with the same initial conditions (at rest and dropped from a height h) they will hit the floor at the same time.

This is a peculiar aspect of gravity and underlying this is the equality of inertial mass and gravitational mass (here only the ratio must be the same for this to be true but Einstein later showed that they're really the same, i.e. the ratio is 1)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ACCEPT... When other shit gets in the way. i.e. An object in motion remains in motion unless acted upon by an outside force- in this case 1 being gravity and 2 being obsticles in it's path of travel.

That shit being the rest of the building.

Now- in the linked video in the OP that wild bill would have you go to doesn't really explain anything other than to offer up a quick repeat of 8th grade physics.

So what is wild bill trying to say?

David Chandler is saying... **** all... I could never really figure that out. David basically says WC7 fell at a rate different than that the official report says and therefore it's proof that Bush is an evil Lizard being who caused 9/11 himself.

I might have condensed the theory down a bit- but I think that's what he is on...other than LSD...

The force due to gravity depends on 2 variables.
The product of the masses, and the distance between them.

The reason it seems like 2 objects of unequal mass have the same fall rate on earth is for 2 reasons.
It is very difficult to set up a comparison and experiment of 2 objects that are grossly disproportionate in mass.
The same is true of the distance between them.

So, on earth 2 objects dropped from an equal height with differing masses will not have the same fall times.
But the difference in fall times will be nearly infinitesimal.

By the way, the only time a = g is on earth.
The gravity constant for any other heavenly body will not be the same as the gravitational constant of earth unless there exists somewhere a heavenly body with the same exact mass of earth (approximately 9.8 meters/second/second).

There was a show on History or H2 discussing 9/11 conspiracy theories.  Yes, they showed those clowns who created numerous videos "Loose Change"???, but even better was to have actual scholars from Popular Mechanics in different clips completely ridiculing them with facts.

You have to remember that when facts and reality contradict a conspiracy theory that just means facts and reality are part of the conspiracy!

That's just crazy talk because according to rosie o'donuts, fire does not melt steel and therefore could not bring down a building.

Quote
Recently, Rosie O'Donnell, a co-host of ABC talk show The View, made comments on the show that renewed controversy over the collapse of World Trade Center 7.

While saying she didn't know what to believe about the U.S. government's involvement in the attacks of Sept. 11, she said, "I do believe that it's the first time in history that fire has ever melted steel. I do believe that it defies physics that World Trade Center tower 7—building 7, which collapsed in on itself—it is impossible for a building to fall the way it fell without explosives being involved. World Trade Center 7. World Trade Center 1 and 2 got hit by planes—7, miraculously, the first time in history, steel was melted by fire. It is physically impossible."

I guess Rosie has never heard of a steel mill...where they make steel into usable stock by melting it with fire.

I watched Loose Change on Net Flix.  Apparently it's like the fourth or fifth incarnation.  They keep changing their theories after they are debunked by experts.

Seriously ?

I knew that the film existed, but I had no idea that it keeps getting rewritten as parts of it get debunked.  So, I went to the primitive friendly Wikipeda and sure enough - Loose Change has been rewritten repeatedly. It seems the author tried to suggest that it was to add new data to the film as it is uncovered, but even Wikipedia makes a point in exposing that theories are removed and replaced.  :rofl:

Yeh, and the most recent draft of the film is still just as comical.  Talking about thermite residue being found at the WTC.  Worth watching just for the unintentional comedy.

Thermite residue? Like aluminum oxide and iron? From an airplane (made of aluminum) crashing into a building (made of steel)? Noooo, that couldn't happen...

I think that the documentary producers concluded that thermite was evidence that bombs were used to bring down the buildings.  I think Jessie Ventura peddles the same bs.

Guess what you get when aluminum is exposed to air (as in Earth's atmosphere)? A surface layer of aluminum oxide.

Guess what you get when steel is exposed to air under heat? Rust (= iron oxide).

Guess what you get when you expose a conspiracy theorist to facts and reality? Anger and a readjusted conspiracy theory.
